If you could buy MP3s legally, how much would you pay per song or per megabyte?

Sure, you can get MP3s for free from Kazaa or the Web, but if you could purchase any song legally, with no
hassle, and be able to choose quality from 128 kbps to 320 kbps, wouldn't you rather pay a few cents and
get what you want legally? Not to mention that paying for music helps to support the artist/band.

(I think I could pay up to 50 cents, but preferably 10-20 cents per song)

What do you think?

...you already can buy MP3's legally. Emusic.com has a monthly subscription and you can DL as many songs as you want a month. 9.99 a month if you sign up for a year, 15 bucks a month otherwise. I only wish they would use better quality, 128 kbps isn't enough (at least that was the quality last time I tried it out).

10 cents would be better... Considering they are still getting album sales AND it would cut down on p2p sharing probably..

Nothing, I can steal them for free.

Also, lossless compression like OGG would be necessary for me even to THINK about opening my wallet.

I can't believe you think you can tell the difference from CD to a 192 bit or better mp3.....

Lets see if I had to pay $.50 for every mp3 I had I would be paying over $3000 I don't think I like that idea.

I would only support such an endeavor if multiple versions of each song were provided - i.e. in uncompressed, in Monkey's Audio, in Ogg, in MP3 (varying bitrates, CBR/VBR), etc.
