That coming from someone who paid $200+ for a power supply...

I paid $450 for mine, your point? A PSU doesn't lose half its value every 12 months. He could actually use all 600 watts someday. You'll never be able to use 512MB Vram on a 6800 for anything useful.

Exactly when I am sitting here in a year plus running dual core or even dual cpu/dual core with perhaps sli pci-e cards modded to quadro cards I likley will be using the same PSU...I have 20/24 pin support now with dual 4pin 12v adapters for dual cpus, pci-e plugs, etc....

I also got adjustable rails and I am an enthusiast overclocker. I am or will get my benefit from this...

I bought my enermas 431watt PSU 2-1/2 years ago for 99 dollars. I was called a fool then, but it supplied me enough power from p4a days to even running this A64 @2.6ghz...I sold it about 4 months ago for 55 dollars. Lets see what that card would be worth 2 years later. Even if it is 50% return (I doubt it at its high margin now) you would lose enough moeny to buy my powe supply and my cpu....

I know what to skimp on and what not to....I dont skimp on PSU and mobos...I buy cheapest CPU and clock it to levels of the most expensive. I buy cheaper vid cards and convert them to 1000-2000 dollar quadro cards. The money I save in thise areas more then make up for the hundred or so dollars I overpayed in PSU I dont necessarily need right now.....I almost went pdual xeons a few months ago so I would have been set then. I may still go that route or go to a dual core dual opteron setup....IAgain I wil be set now.

better then those who have to upgrade their power supply every time they upgrade their cpu or vid card....I plan ahead....

Actaully I only paid 192 shipped....

Consider my vote changed to $350

Fine fine. I should have added those other options to begin with. Get over it.

Great Rant. I payed $150 for my PSU. And I splurged on and A8N-SLI mobo, since I'm almost for sure gonna have it for 3 years, since the dual core offerings for AMD use the same socket.

Everyone Keep Voting!

Assuming you didn't, what would you pay? Vote Already!

Assuming I didn't what?

Have a 6800 Gt.

Assuming I had a last-gen or older card and wanted to upgrade? I'd just wait until the new cards arrive this summer then. I just don't see the point in spending $$$$ on something that is, with almost complete certainty, going to be outdated in two-three months.

I guess you could say I would pay $350-$400, since then I could sell it for most of my purchase price to fund the purchase of a new video card. But in reality I likely would not do that. Basically...I just don't see the point of a 512MB 6800U.

Ok.... Then couldn't you vote for the same price as 256 6800 Ultra, or vote for $350?

Maybe if someone offered me one for less than the price I could get for my X800XL. I've already got a card though, and I'm perfectly happy with it. No need to go buy another one.

I repeat: Assuming that you DIDN'T already have a card, what would you pay for it? Either that or mark down ATI fanboy.

First of all, this question cannot be answered until we see some more benchmarks performed as well as some more driver revisions. Still havent seen any tests done with the 6800 ultra 512 in SLI, which is where the extra memory would, in theory, come into play. The nature of current SLI means that 2 512 cards would be basically sharing the 512 memory, thus in SLI the extra memory should make a difference. How much, we can't know till it's tested.

Someone who can afford 2 high end cards for SLI might not bat an eyeball at getting 2 512 cards at $600 a pop even if the performance increase was as little as 20%. Most others wouldn't touch the card unless it was a good 30+% increase.

i dont know... Spending a grand on ONE 512MB 6800ultra really is steep. Man i hate the fact of even spending 500 dollars on a video card =/.

and Demoth has a good point, if there isnt a pretty good increase in performance it isnt really worth the money especially in SLI. Man if you want a good way to burn a hole in your pocket or be in more debt that what some of us really are, buy these cards in SLI when they come out. HA

Some people would say that paying more than $200 for a video card is insane (not that I'm personally one of those people). 😛

i think when these new next generation cards come out from ati and nvidia, they'll probably have there top of the line around $600-700 then there mainstream around $500-600 in my opinion
