It depends but probably 9 times out of 10 I wouldn't argue for more than a few seconds about it. Us ballers don't care about no dollar (I throw pennies away too, hardcore as f).

Coupons are lame, and old people LOVE them. If it isn't for a national brand/chain I won't use one. That pretty much limits my coupon usage to HarborFreight and McDonalds. I don't buy much in the way of national brands.

I would argue for up to 3 minutes and 50 seconds for $1.
If I did my math right, that gives you an hourly rate of 2.4¢/hour. You'd do better paying full price, and asking for the hair clippings to sell to China.

edit:
no idea what I was doing, but math wasn't it. I totally fucked that up :^S

edit2:
We'll go with $15.65/hour. Much more reasonable

Depends how much money one has. If you were broke and struggling to support your family and make your paycheck last the week you'd probably worry about every $.

With other people it may be more of a habit or even a mental-health thing, maybe? I had family who would be like that not because they were poor at the time but because they had been desperately so in the past (and never got over the memory of having to hide when the rent-collector called).

coupons are essential at advance auto or autozone too, just because they are ALWAYS available, usually plastered on the website, and easily save you %20-25 on your order.

i recently bought a new car battery at advance and 10 seconds of googling for a coupon code saved me 40$.

I tip my barber $0. Ahhhh the joys of going bald and not caring what people think of your horrible haircut.

It's a PITA though - why don't they just lower their prices and save everyone the extra work and save all the time wasted at check-outs as some people search through wallets full of coupons? I don't really get why retailers bother with the stupid things.

I like what my local supermarket does - when you sign up with them and create an online account, you can "clip" coupons to your account. Then at checkout you just enter your phone number and the coupons are automatically applied.

I think there is research out there that shows many people get more satisfaction when they think they got a good deal so saving $10 off $100 widget feels better than buying the same widget at a regular price of $90

Friend and fam own a men's clothes store. Many years ago, I needed a winter coat. I don't remember the exact price but he charged me $250. I said the tag is $375. He said the he makes $$ at $250 but the snobs won't buy it so he charges $375 and can't keep them in stock. Rich people club, I don't think I want to be the fool and lack of money guy.

I would argue for the dollar but not long. Haven't seen a barber or had a paid for haircut in over 10 years. Never been comfortable with scissors, they cousin of needles, another metal instrument I don't like in another's hands near me.

I have the same $15 con air clippers the entire ten years. The hair gets cleaned and the blades oiled and I don't run it that long.

Screw barbers and that entire gimmick. How much does a man's haircut even cost? And you're supposed to tip in USA, not sure the amount but it's expected. Never had a straight razor shave either, that gives me the Willie's.

You’re missing out. I love when they take out the clippers to straighten the back. Feels so good. I’d pay good money for someone to do that to me all day.

In Bangkok Thailand, Falang argued $2 cab fare with a Thai cab driver. Took a machete to the neck.

It's not worth it. They can have the $1. 2 or whatever.

Avis recently charged me 7.50 for a toll I didn't go through and wasn't even near. I called, they told me to send documentation proving I wasn't near there, I did. Never heard back, so I protested it on the CC. I felt ridiculous protesting 7.50 but it was the principal of the matter.

CC basically automatically approved the protest, then a few days later Avis also gave me a refund, probably after they got the notice from the CC company.

A guy at work lost a dollar in the vending machine, called the company and they were arguing with him and he said "Lady, I make $50/he I'm not trying to steal a dollar from you." I about fell out of my chair.

Interesting. A lot of vending machine companies will basically hand out slips for people to fill out and the business office will take it out of petty cash to reimburse. Then reconcile each week.

But I applaud the principle. Have to hold folks accountable.

some people are really cheap. but I think for a lot of folks its more about the principle. you thought things should be one way and it turns out they are another way. you are small and weak and immature and you cant handle anything that challenges your world-view. so you argue. because the childish part of your brain is in charge and you think if you can win an argument the world will be a better place and everything will make sense again.

its actually nice to see such pettiness, because it helps me identify all the children in grown-up bodies.
And you know what, in the last decade I have been observing this phenomenon and noticed theres a FUCKLOAD of children in America masquerading as grown-ups.

My Mom's like that. She's like, "I found a coupon in the paper! You can use it when you go to your mechanic.".

I'm thinking, "Hey, man-to-man, I already agreed on an estimate, I'm not going to try to nickle-and-dime the guy with a coupon." "Seriously, WTF Mom."

(I'm in my 40s, I don't live with Mom, but she lives nearby .)

Hahaha, holy shit man, she sounds like my MIL.
