Sleep is a biatch, it takes time away from you doing more productive stuff yet our body can't live w/o it. So lets say a pharma company found a way to alter your genes to enable you to function at 100% with only about 2 hours of sleep per day, how much would you pay for it to receive the therapy?

Too many variables at play here to really answer your question :\.

However, to give you an answer to your question: $20.

This is tough because; yes, if I didn't have to sleep I could do more stuff.

However, I love sleep. I love sleep a lot. Its basically one of my favorite things to do.

So assuming I can still sleep 8-10 yrs on the weekends just as a choice, and only 2-3 hrs on week days, I would pay a lot

10 random people that I've never met.

More seriously, I'd write a check for $100,000 tomorrow to have that extra 5 hours a day, even if I just wasted it posting here :)

$250,000.

This is assuming no negative side effects at all. Me functioning at 100% is some kind of fantasy I rarely experience anymore even with spending 8-10 hours trying to sleep every night. No longer being in a haze everyday? Holy fuck yes.

I spend 10 hr per day at work on average. Ideally, I would get 8 hours of sleep per day. If i could function on 2, I would spend an additional 3 hours at work, or in other words, get 30% more work. So I would pay HALF of what my raise would be for the additional work.

For example, if I was making 80k a year before gene therapy, got a raise to 100k, I would pay 10k/year for the therapy.

I'd rather alter my genes to live 30% longer.

What good is not sleeping when the rest of the world is moving slower than you. That would be frustrating.

Tons of money. The only reason we LOVE sleep is because its a required and extremely important function of our bodies.

Remove the requirement, and we wouldn't give a damn.

Heck with that, I love sleeping.

What do you think you'd actually accomplish?
read more, exercise more, spend more time with family, could work more for OT. spend more time cooking healthier meals. run errands. play games. basically... everything.

what WOULDNT you do? sleep is great, but it is a colossal waste of time.

Technically you are living longer if you require less sleep!

I would pay a lot, but right now I'm pretty broke. So $3.50 is all I can offer.

Only if aging is slowed down 30%. Who wants to be 130 and look 130? o_O

I wouldn't take it for any money. I get the feeling that people will just take advantage of it. Oh, you only need 4hr sleep now? I guess a 16hr work day is okay. What, you've still got 8hr to yourself. :p

So is eating and drinking. Would you get rid of those requirements if you could?

Plus I theorize that rates of violent crimes would skyrocket. I know I would go bonkers if I had people bugging me for crap an extra six hours per day.

I went with very little sleep when my triplets had colic. I seriously wonder how I did not end up in a mental ward.

No sleep? No thank you.

If I could somehow get it on long term credit, 100k. With all that spare time I could work another job or run a business or other money making venue to pay it off fast.

When you think about it, sleep is the biggest waste of our time ever. We spend something like 30% of our life sleeping. The only part of sleep that's great is when you wakeup and don't actually have to get up, such as on a weekend. That few minutes before you fall back asleep is the most awesome feeling, the rest just zooms by like it did not happen, it's completely wasted time.
