Hey guys I'm 23 and live in Washington. I have the inside track to get a job in Florida. The job posting is going up tomorrow and the salary range is $57k-95k. Right now I'm making $45k. The company I work for is not too stable and I don't know if I would still have a job come a year from now. The company in florida is rock solid and not going anywhere.

So would you take it?

that's good money in Fla, I think it would depend on where in that salary range I'd fall.I'd also be looking for some relocation expenses and assistance.Btw,I think I'd also be looking for a contract.

Lots of "ifs" in there. Are you single? Are you sure it's stable? Did you get a promise that you will have a job when you get there for more then 6 months? 20K is a big jump in money but there are more things to consider then money. I'm not sure if I would move for 20K unless I knew for certain it was a for sure thing for at least 5 years.

I live just across the sound from you. And as a Boeing employee I'm not far from going out the door so if it's stable down there let me know. :)

What is the cost of living where you are right now? What is the cost of living of the city in Florida? You might make more money numbers wise, but you may not be better off at all of living expenses are overpriced. Lots of Northern California is like that (especially Silicon Valley).

It would depend on the standard of living in the State.

Texas has no state income tax and it's cheap to live here...

It would take an extra $12k per year (NET after taxes/deductions) to get me to move across the country.

In your situation though, if everything is cool with your family/friends/obligations then I'd take the job.

Well I'm have a serious girlfriend, I have no kids, I have no house. I have a mother who is sick though and I've been living at home with her for almost a year helping out. The mom situation is the thing that is making it a tough call.

Though it would suck to find a job in the Seattle area. I only have like 2 years experience at programming, and software development. That pales in comparison to a lot of unemployed people out there.

I'd move for $200,000 to $250,000+. I don't make quite that much now, but I'd need atleast that much to consider packing my bags.

If I liked the job I'd move. But I've never been one to make ties and what not so it's easy for me to move and not really miss what I've left behind.

12K more + job security is enough. Move and take your mom with you. I'm sure you'll find another girl, unless she is "the one"

but if you have to move to a ghetto or africa, then no amount of money is enough.

Maybe your mom would even do better in the warmer climate?

Good luck in whatever you decide:)

Does this company have any marketing/sales openings? I'm an Ohio State marketing grad and I want to move to Florida too!

I'd move across country (as long as it was to a mountain state) for the same money I make now, IF the company would pay my moving costs.

DON'T MOVE TO FLORIDA!

I did that once.. moved from the central california coast to west palm beach. Florida is the most horrible state ever. It's always hot, rainy (even when it's not raining, it feels the same way.... it's so damn humid). There's big ass bugs all over the place, everything is dirty, the entire state is flat as hell. I HATED Florida. I moved back after 6 weeks. Couldn't stand the place.
