flying from houston, can fly into any of the airports. $99 for LGA and newark, and the price of a barrel for JFK. LGA should be the cheapest for cab fare, but if the fare is only a few $ more from JKF, flying into JFK would be cheaper. i'm under the impression that you can take a train from newark into penn station, and from there i could take the subway up. that might be cheapest for just 1 person.

I believe there's a flat rate that was set ~$35-45 from LGA. Newark might be a little more due to the tolls.

Well, not quite, the PA built the AirTrain to connect JFK to the subway lines, it's $5, but you can use (non unlimited ride) MetroCards to pay.

Actually, I just realized it's a pain to get from the E to the 1 train. No direct transfers. You can take the Airtrain to the Howard Beach stop and get on an A and transfer to the 1 at Columbus Circle. You could also take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and take the LIRR to Penn Station, then hop on a 1 from there. This would be the fasted method, I believe the LIRR ticket is only $7 or so during peak hours.

I live in the area, the QUICKEST way to get to columbia is to go from newark. JFK and Laguardia is possible, but you have to do some switching of trains to get to CU. Most people from the tri state area come from pen and NJ and all take the Newark line. The monorail from newark airport to newark train station is FREE. from newark, it will take you about 5 dollars to get to penn station. From there, it's 2 dollars on the subway, you can find the 1 line in the same building.

You can take the E train from jamaica to 42nd times square, and then transfer to the 1 from there.

also, if you're coming in from LGA, theres a bus (M60) that runs along 125th st. $2...thats it.

I've done this exact route before. Yes, its "faster", meaning it only took 1 hour and 10 minutes (peak time, trains running late) versus 1 hour and 30 minutes from Howard Beach. I can't remember what it cost, but it was like $12 or something. Definately cheaper than a cab, but if you have lots of luggage you're gonna be schlepping it.

flight is arriving at 9:45 pm, so peak time isn't a problem.
