How much would I have to pay you to eat this?

Well it's blood. We are familiar with it in steak when cooked rare. When it comes to another culture and we're not familiar with it, we automatically call them weird.
If its' well prepared, I will pay you $10 for a dish.

I wouldn't drink any blood looking like that. Unless paid of course.

As for the original question, 1k for each second I have to hold it in. I can probably hold it for about 10 seconds

That's not a very flattering picture. Not like this is any better but I'm just saying. :p I will eat all 5 if I get a new Challenge Stradale in Rosso Corsa, black leather interior with red stitching, no radio, no AC, 0 miles. :D

I think downing a beating cobra heart is worse... but that's probably because I'm such a little sissy with snakes. lol

This man is paying to eat it. ;)

I was introduced to this dish about 10 years ago. I was very afraid and closed my eyes the first time I ate it. To my surprise, it didn't have blood taste/smell at all (after I put some lemon juice and chilly pepper in it). An exotic dish to have once in awhile (with beer or wine)

In the US, it's more presentable. It's served chilled in a shallow dish, pretty much like this. I saw a Vietnam vet ate 2 plates like that in a Vietnamese restaurant with about 5-6 Heineken.

A serving is about a table spoon, then eat it with basil, cilantro, other herbs, peanut and Vietnamese crackers.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. blood, oooooh. raw fish, steak tartar and rare/medium-rare steaks are fine, so why not this.

How can you compare a cooked rare steak with a bowl of raw duck blood?

Blood, as well as other body fluids, carries disease. Also, the blood is raw, not cooked. Steaks are grilled, so the heat will kill many of the pathogens.

I don't like sushi, and I wouldn't eat steak tartare (had to look it up), but none of those have the same amount of blood product as raw blood soup. I'd still be cautious with those things though, anything uncooked has a higher risk of infection than cooked food stuffs.

ugh, the OP's picture made me puke a little.

However, if said dish was presented better, and from a well-known/clean looking restaurant I probably will try a spoonful. And hopefully not puke.

Op's picture looks disgusting though.

Yes, I totally concur with you. I like to limit my culinary experiences because I am deathly afraid of cooties.

fixed.

Jesus Christ, we're talking about raw blood and possible health risks. That is all.

Well you'd think if it made you sick constantly you'd stop eating it. Judging from the fact that it's still around, I'd bet that most people don't get sick.

He just doesn't give up, does he? We get it...you don't have to be so defensive. I don't know how you've made it thus far on AT :p

have a ...I'm having a few with dinner tonight. no blood today though. maybe tomorrow.

Well, you're right about that. But, judging from the diets of most advanced nations, people on this board would probably not have built immunities around it. Hence the "possible." :)

I responded to you twice before. Oh well, some people can't last that long. :p

cigarettes, alcohol, etc etc ;)

anyway, I wouldn't go near the stuff. plus, it is a lot different than raw fish or even beef tartare. meat isn't the same thing as blood...
