How Much Work Do You Do at Work?

clamum

Like in Office Space where Peter says something along the lines of "In a given day, I only do about 15 minutes of actual work."

I work 9-3pm (minus a lunch break, so technically 5 hours). In 5 hours of being here I do about 2-3 hours of actual work. Heh 🙂

EDIT: 3 hours on a good day.

I work 8 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Dept. of Public Safety (vehicle patrols of campus). Any given night probably includes about a half hour of actual work. The rest of it is just driving around.

I work 8 hours a day. If I don't, then I'd simply have to do more work the next day since there's only two people in my department, and I kinda like the satisfaction of not being useless.

5.5 hours+ of actual work (out of 5.5 hrs). There's no real time for me to dilly-daly when I have lazy coworkers in retail and I want to close the store and get out on time. I hate my job. 🙁

EDIT: I'm lucky if I have a 20min break to eat dinner... argh

I'm an on site consultant. I've found this to be a pretty common guilty sentiment amongst fellow consultants, (Skoorb comes to mind). One way I've found to justify it is considering that the company is paying me to be here and available for when the sh!t hits the proverbial fan.

I do days of two or three hours actual work, sure, but there are times when I put in a full ten and sometimes more because something is broke. Not to mention the cell phone makes me available anywhere anytime, so I think it evens out. Corporations, I think, generally don't expect IT personnel to work all day every day (dependant on the job description of course), I think they mainly pay us to keep the systems running usable, so that users can make the company money.

Well, I'm posting from work right now... I'm normally here about 8.5 hours, couple of short breaks and a half hour for lunch....I probably do about 3-4 hours of work per day, the rest is posting and relaxing (this job is so much easier than my last job!)

As a fellow consultant.... I do ERP Systems Implementations, and I do find that it does even out. I'm on a client now, and we range from doing 4 hours a day of work to 12 hours. It just depends on what part of the project you're in that dictates the amount of real work you'll be doing.

Far more than I would like, they think it's great fun to send me every type of call we get here. I take in warranty, out of warranty, contract, and authorized tech calls.

Woohoo, I'm everybody's bitch!

I'm currently on a conference call... and here at the same time... so that kinda tells you something... eh ?

Well here's a hard worker! Hehe 😀

I work in a layed-back small business (industrial distributor). There's really no deadlines to meet and no hard work to do. To be honest I could leave and they could get by without much problem. Right now I'm writing up procedures on how to do stuff around here so when I transfer to Mich. Tech in the fall the rest know how to do what I do on the computers (which isn't exactly hard).

Depends on the day. Since our dept has dwindled down to 3people the amount of work I do on average has gone up significantly.

I work retail and many times I'm running at least 1/3 of the store (toys, domestics, housewares, furniture, hardware, paint, and sporting goods) at a walmart supercenter. I'm always busy for the most part being bothered by customers or doing things around my main departments of hardware/paint. For example, last night I was working on hanging ceiling fans, changing out old displays and wiring up new ones.

Quite a bit, actaully. Probably 5 hours or so of work related to my job, and the remainder is spent either working on my graduate classes or goofing around (stress relief). Those 5 hours are a constant reminder of why I am working on my graduate degree.....

At least your day goes by quick without much "effort" ... just running around isn't a bad way to kill time.

So in other words, your boss posts here, right? 😀

You people are bastards!:| Last summer when I worked for the government, I did more than 8h a day ... and didn't even get overtime pay. Oh well, I guess you have to work hard when you are a temporary employee and they could fire you any day they pleased:disgust:

At least tax dollars were well spent on my hard work.
