How much will the GeForce2 32MB drop?

I've been waiting to get a new video card until the Geforce3's come out to save some money. I was planning on getting a 64MB Geforce2, but the more I look I don't really think I'll have any need for a 64MB card (only have 15" monitor and care mainly about framerates). Now I'm thinking of getting a Geforce2 32MB GTS card, but don't know if I should wait a few weeks for the prices to drop. Any ideas whether the 32MB cards will drop much in price when the Geforce3's come out? Was kinda thinking they may not if the new cards don't have a 32meg version.

BTW, the only thing I want the card for is playing Nascar Racing 4.

System Specs:
AMD T-Bird 800mhz
Abit KT7-RAID
128MB PC-100 memory (gonna get 256MB of AMD supported RAM when I get my video card)
Voodoo3 2000

Thanks,
Jason Davis

I think your wasting money if your just going to play nascar racing 4.

I know that voodoo 3 2000 is plenty fast enough with your processor. If you only have 15" monitor, I would get myself a nice 17 inch or 19inch monitor with the money you were going to spend it on a video card.

Believe you won't regret it. With a right monitor your gaming experience will be much better than just replacing video cards.

I believe you are thinking of Nascar Racing 3. A Voodoo3 2000 is plenty for that, but for Nascar4 which was released this month, it takes much more to run it properly. My main concern is framerates as opposed to great graphics, so to me a new video card is a better choice than a larger monitor. Thanks for your response.

Hello-

I'm guessing the prices won't drop at all. Now that Nvidia has a corner on the market, I hardly expect prices to drop at all. Look at the geforce 1 ddr--its price is over $100 and the geforce 2 has been out for a long time. Computer makers are going to be sorry that they didn't diversify more the past couple of years--by switch in droves completely to nvidia instead of doing a split between ati and nvidia, they're going to hurt themselves down the road when ATI is eventually taken over (because then nvidia will have a monopoly, like microsoft, and be able to charge whatever they want for their products). It's sad to see ATI having problems right now--their stock price keeps on dropping more and more, much like 3dfx's did. If ATI doesn't come out with a killer product in their next product cycle, they'll likely be toast. Just my 2 cents.

taylor34,

ATI plays a very good role in the OEM market, so a lot of the people who bought cheap and crappy OEM systems have ATI cards (ok,ok nVidia also sold quite a lot of their TNT2 M64 cards here). But that's a major difference between ATI and 3dfx, so I don't think ATI's position is nearly as bad as 3dfx's position was in the past one or two years...
