Does anyone know how much Microsoft SP1 for windows xp will cost and when is it going to come out?

Free. Maybe a CD will be available for around 7 bucks for S&H.

BTW, SP1 is not Windows XP equivalent of Windows 98 SE. It's similar in how it updates the OS, but it is not sold as a distinct product.

Indeed. I don't trust beta software in general, but a beta service pack. You are definatly braver then I 🙂.

A 100mb service pack for a consumer os is insanity. Not everyone is on broadband. They could get away with it with Win2k/NT because most people used that on LAN's and distribution was easy. I've heard that it will contain all previous bugfixes, so if you've downloaded them already, it wont redownload/apply those fixes.

I am in the process of setting up a network, and I installed it on my extra computer. Like I said though, no problems so far. I did quite a bit of reading up on it on another forum and it had gone well for everyone else so I figured why not. I do need some brass polish for my conolies though 😉.

I have a beta of SP1 installed on my laptop and I haven't had any issues with it at all (knock on wood).
