Why do people feel a need to sell all their stocks?

They are looking out for number one.

I'm down about $1,500 right now, that sucks...

Still, not as bad as it could have been, I'm well placed in stocks to protect myself... I've actually got a few that are up today. :)

I cannot believe GE is down 11%, ouch... Must be fear over their aircraft engine business...

Just bought some more GE, at $35 it is a steal!

Of course, while I just made $20 on GE, I've lost $200 today on SouthWest...

Bought them just two weeks ago... Talk about bad timing... Still, I almost bought some Boeing at the time, and didn't... Whew... (wipes brow)

The bottom line is that there just aren't many people buying today. That may change tomorrow as people see on the news tonight what happened today.

yea, that is why I added 20% to my portfolio, and even went slightly over my current cash position and bought about $2,000 worth on margin...

I expect that within a month that will be covered back into cash with the bounce...

If not, oh well, I've got other cash reserves so I'm not going to starve. :)

PS. to anyone thinking about buying stocks, don't ever spend rent money and have your bills paid up, 6 months cash reserve, and no debt other than house/car payment... if you owe money on credit cards, pay them off first, best money you can make...

It would not suprise me if the Dow falls below 6000 by the end of this month and 5000 by years end.

I think we're heading toward a recession. The government is going spend a lot of money, and nobody is complaining about using up the SS trust fund.

This was the biggest point drop in history, but not even close to the biggest percentage drop.

no way it drops to 5000. my personal opinion, based on very little real evidence is that the dow won't fall below 8000. i've been telling 8000 is a more realistic value for the dow to everyone i know for about 8 months now, so it would be interesting if that's where it bottomed out. of course i'm hoping it won't fall that far.
