How much will it cost to strip a car...

Saw a cheap used FC for sale and was playing with the thought of making it a track car. Anyone did the stripping by themselves? I'm probably the only one crazy enough in my circle of friends to do this, let alone the only one interested in cars so doing it by myself will most likely take too long.

What is a FC? Stripping cars is easy. I do it all the time when someone gives me a parts car. Taking all of it apart, especially if it doesn't have to go back together, is about as simple a task as you will find concerning a car and it is rather fun. If something is not coming out easy you just get a bigger crow bar and force it.

Where are you located?

It'd take maybe at least week (all things considered, that you don't have all day, everyday to do this) to do it yourself if you were being carefull so you could resale the parts taken out. If you don't care about reselling the parts, then it would take a lot less. IMO, you are much better off doing it yourself; with the money saved you can pay for the roll cage and any other chassis fixing/stiffening(such as seam welding) that you might need. I'd think you'd need a heckuva lot of room; a big garage would certainly help.

Maybe I can crash at one of my friend's house and dirty their driveway...

I just thought there was a right way to take off that sound deadening stuff all over the floor other than just scraping the hell ouf of it... I was thinking of the stitch welding but I don't think I could afford something that took that much time. I'm sure it'll be fun... I bet it'll be a lot better if I can take everything out and have the whole shell repainted... but thats too much $$$...

Liquid nitrogen helps in taking off the tar/rubber/plastic stuff they sometimes put under the padding/carpet. You can chip it off instead of heating with a heat gun and getting a gooey mess. OR, you can go up the sierra nevada when its super cold outside and then chip it off. Sucks that you dont have room....maybe get a public storage thing that has enough room to do so (but then they may become suspicious?).

A guy in my class has two 85 Corollas on jacks in his driveway... it's been sitting there for maybe 3 years now. One has no motor... and the other is just dead. Both are stripped though and he said he soaked it in paint thinner then scraped it off... I suppose that's one messy way to do it.

Man... only if i had that much money... Not to mention I would probably need to pull that motor and have it rebuilt ...and then have it race ported! :laugh:

Now it sounds more like an expensive project.
