hey guys,

thought i might ask a quick question here regarding what you all think about any possible price drops in mid-range dx9 cards when mid-range dx10 cards begin to come out... from what i have read, dx10 is a complete revolution in gfx and not a mere "next step"; will this have an increased effect on dx9 cards being seen as "obsolete"?

another question is how long you expect it to take before we start seeing mid-range dx10 cards... end of this year? early next year?

let me know what you think

If I was a betting man,I would bet on a ~feb release for Nvidia mid ranged DX10 cards.

Yeap, no reason to start selling lower margin cards until R600 is out. They're going to milk this brand new architecture for all it's worth over the next couple of months, and with 4years invested and performance above anything else anyone has one the table, who can blame them?

I agree Feb release for mid range DX10 possibly nVidia 8600 line, etc.

DX9 mid range prices have dropped so much, I think the two markets (DX9, DX10) will remain quite distinct due to the required Vista upgrade to take advantage of DX10 implementation.

As far as DX9 keep an eye for the nV 7900 GT to drop to $175 soon, it is easily overclockable from 450MHz to 560MHz giving huge price/performance ratio. Plus you get all full 24 pipes, not 20 as in 7900 GS units.

In the NVidia DX9 midrange, we are still waiting for the "imminent" :disgust: release of the GeForce 7650GS (80nm process). If past behavior from NVidia continues, this card should offer a moderate degree of performance improvement over the 7600GT at a bargain price.

The 7650GS seems to have been delayed a few times. But it has to be released very soon if it is to be available for the "Holidays" shopping period.

Don't hold your breath. I was waiting on the 6800GS when the 7600/7xxx series came out, the price still hasn't changed around here.

i am holding all purchases of gfx cards untill the 8600gt is out. if history is an indicator then 8600gt will prbably come at 200-250 price and decimate everything the previous generation offered.

how long did it take before they released the 7900gs because that is there $200 range card. I expect you will have to wait an equal time frame.
