How much will $70 buy in terms of fireworks?

I'd say - make up your own fireworks little gunpowder, gasoline, etc. You could make up your own fireworks really well

That entirely depends on what region of the country you're in. In Missouri or another state where the government doesn't try to protect stupid people from themselves by ruining the fun for everyone, $70 would buy you a crap-load of stuff. In a state which prohibits all the good stuff because a few dumb people don't understand "Place on flat surface, light fuse, and get away", you will pay a hefty premium because you are essentially buying black market fireworks.

It might not last very long but the stunned silence other firework shooters in the vicinity is well worth it. Plus, what other firework will let you carve your name in the pavement when it's finished?

You could spend the money on a nice out door event with a free fireworks display at the end... a hell of a deal compared to what you can buy at the local stands.
