How Much Wear & Tear Does a Nitrous Kit Cause?

I was driving by a local car lot & noticed a white on white Camaro RS convertible, stopped & took a look, and it has nitrous kit on it.

I like the look of the car & it's priced right, but I'm very reluctant to consider it because of the NOS kit. Am assuming it would cause excessive wear & tear on the engine...

How hard is NOS on an engine?

i wouldnt touch it with a 10 ft pole. What do you think someone who has owned a nitrous oxide kit would do with it?

i would guess when the NOS ignites and explodes, it is pretty hard on an engine...

other than that...no idea... some educated guesses...

I would guess the Nitrous is used to make the engine more combustable... cause a better explosion, and allow the engine to burn fuel hotter, providing more power.... under those assumptions.... i would guess it provides ALOT more wear & tear on an engine, and plugs, than non-NOS.

as stated above, I wouldnt worry about the effects of nitrous oxide being used on that engine, but rather the fact that it was installed. Just like a car with an aftermarket turbo or supercharger installed. You install that sort of thing because you want more power. If you want more power, its because when pushing the car to its limits, you hit them and wanted higher limits. Which is all a complex way of saying someone has (probably) driven it like they stole it, and didnt like the owner...

Nitrous do not ignite nor explode. It decomposes into its base diatomic compounds to aid in combustion.

That said, cylinder pressures and temperatures do increase.

N20 is not flammable, When the nitrous oxide is heated to 570F~, it breaks down and releases extra oxygen, the oxygen alone does not create additional power, but the engine can burn more fuel. By burning more fuel, higher cylinder pressures are created where most of the additional power is gained. Also it changes from a liquid to a gas and reduces intake temperature drastically also improving power.

Haven't you seen Fast and the Furious? Didn't you see it when the laptop said... "Danger to manifold!"... and then Paul Wacker said..."Shut up!"... ;) :D

Don't get it... chances are... that car has been driven hard.
