How much water can a 50 ft section of 5/8 inch hose hold in gallons?

FYI...I am winterizing my camper and want to fill a gardenhose with antifreeze then force it through the lines with air pressure.

Thanks to anyone who can help with the question.

If you dont know how to do geometry then I hate you.
Volume of a cylinder, look it up.
Also, it will be easier in metric, trust me.

Volume = π(r^2)h

π is Pi, approximately 3.142
r is the radius of the circular end of the cylinder
h height of the cylinder

V = 3.142 * (.3125 in. ^2) * 600 in = 184.1 cubic inches

1 cubic inch = .00433 gal

V = .8 Gallons

r = .3125, not .625

:) THIS year, I remembered to dump the water out of the trap under the sink. Last year, it froze & burst.

Out of curiosity, is there any benefit to putting in the RV antifreeze, vs. just emptying all the water? (I ask, since you're hooking an air compressor up.) I thought that going the extra mile - emptying all the lines, emptying the hot water tank, etc., was simply a slightly more difficult option to just dumping a few gallons into the holding tank & using the pump to push it through the system.

Actually there is benefit to pushing antifreeze through the lines since when you drain the lines there is still water in some of the lines.

And how much drainage/flow will be needed to get ALL the antifreeze out of the lines next spring.

Do people not know how to do a basic volume calculation? And how to convert units?

It seems you are the one who is ignorant. Maybe you should go look up the definition.

Most of the big assholes in the world know damn well how things work. Its other peoples blissful ignorance that makes them grumpy.

Theres another thing you didnt know.

Come to think of it, thats a little ironic you'd have a Ron Swanson clip for your avatar. Do you even know what that character is about?

What would be the point of a forum if we all knew the answers already?

His post was uncalled for. The OP asked an honest question. (not trolling, etc) He didn't come here to be put down. If Triumph didn't want to answer it or be helpful at all, then don't post at all.

If you side with that all power to you. I don't see the problem here.

To err on the side of caution would be an understatement.
Yes there are many calculators online used by tradesman to obtain the volume which has already been answered here.

However "anti freeze" is a broad term. Since this is a potable water system you MUST be sure to use a product designed for that purpose. Ethylene Glycol commonly used in automotive cooling systems must NEVER be used. RV supply houses will have the proper stuff based on propylene glycol. It's typically pink. A gallon will go a long way. Most people will use a Schrader type adapter on their potable water connection that allows a standard tire chuck to be connected and "blow" out the lines. (yes a blow job!) That will remove most standing water. In the holding tank you can add your PG and run the 12V pump which will prime and charge the line(s). Run the sinks slowly until you see pink coming out. Flush the head and run the shower too. This will give you good protection. It does not take much water to freeze up a hard copper line and when they do (and split) it's often in a wall in an inaccessible area requiring cutting.

Using the supply hose (5/8" garden variety) connected to a spigot with no backflow preventer may also violate codes.

:confused:

Must be missing the joke. I'm very familiar with the definition, I just don't think "intentionally being a jerk on a web forum" belongs on the spectrum.

Regardless of what some yutz with a GED in Internet Psychoanalysis may have diagnosed themselves with.
