I've been running pfsense for a few months now, previous i was not logging any unsolicited traffic. And it has opened my eyes as to how much "background noise" there is on the internet. My IP receives about 2000 unsolicited incoming packets a hour at the low point and 5000 a hour on the high side, busy hours seem to be the middle of my night time, PST. Most of these appear to be port scans or attempts to log into the default SSH port. some are also SSH attempts to oddball ports, probably malware/botnet related virus ports.
It was truly shocking to me that there would be this much interest in a basic internet cable IP address.
Anyone who also logs these attempts im interested in how much unsolicited traffic you guys see per hour. It just seems crazy high to me.
