im planning to sell my old emachine, but i have no idea how much i should ask for. i will sell it locally because i think the shipping is too much for a low-end computer. anyway, here is my bad boy:

AMD 2000+
DVD drive
CDRW drive
80G 5400rpm hard drive
56K modem, ethnet
onboard video
512M ram (DDR 2100) (can be 760M, im thinking if i should move the 256M to my new computer or just leave it there)
19 inch mag CRT

the computer is at good condition,i have all the driver and software, even can be more(since I have some other software in this computer). how much u guys think I should ask for? thx a lot for your suggestion🙂



 
Putting a 256 mb stick of that old ram in your new computer is pointless. A gig of ram is like ~75-80 bucks. Plus that one little stick will slow down the other sticks anyways.

You won't get much selling that thing, why don't you strip it down and keep it as a backup computer?

Nah, people are stupid about what computers are worth. In might not be worth $300 in the For Sale/Trade forum, but locally it will be. It just depends on how it's advertised, you need to sell the sizzle, not the steak. Play up the 19" monitor, the ability to burn your own CD's, the ability to watch DVD movies and the fact that it's "internet ready". Don't call attention to the onboard video or the slow hard drive. Start at $375, let them talk you down a bit.
 
Emachines are good, good tech support. Any non-enthusiast should take it. But they are puters in a box, so anything over $300 for a used emachine is a ripoff. With the right deals, you could get one of these for free.

you are probably right.

since i build them, i look at it thru different lenses. i suppose if someone didnt read AT/FS they would see it as in your post. I hope the OP takes your advice and gets more for it then I suggested.

Yup, just say you saw the Virgin Mary in the case, ebay it and with the proceeds get an alienware pc
