Hey guys,

Any of you have experience shipping a pool table? I'm thinking of buying one locally off of Craigslist, but don't know how much it'll cost to ship the pool table.

How much do you think it'll cost to professionally move a 4' x 8', 1000 lbs pool table within a distance of 30 miles?

In this case, the issue shouldn't be the distance, but rather the effort and time required in getting it onto and off of the truck.

Have you called up any local shops in the area that specialize in pool tables?

They will probably outsource it to another company they work w while taking a cut but this is probably still your best bet.

if you wanted to undertake disassembly and reassembly you could do it, but as for an estimate.. no clue.

UHaul truck, plus you and like 4 buddies. It'll cost you about $30 for the UHaul, and $200 for the beer and pizza to keep the 4 buddies helping you.

Yep, FTW.

Make sure you get a nice UHaul truck instead of an old beat up one.

I've seen professional movers charge $700 to move one 1000 lb item three blocks (it was a work move and someone forgot to ask the price for the one item we couldn't move ourselves). You might really want to ask around before committing to one mover. Also, aren't most pool tables closer to 600 lbs? I bet you can get 4 professionals for $50/hour + profit and it'll be ~$300.

I was going to mention the same thing, but your numbers are a bit off. I don't know about your UHaul company, but here, a UHaul can be had for as little as $19.99/day. BUT, they tack on ~$1/mile, and you have to pay ~$0.50/mile for the fuel. By the time he is done driving from UHaul to the site, 30 miles to his house, and back to UHaul, it'll be a $60-$100 bill. Also, I've used beer and pizza to bribe my buddies but that really only takes $50.

The downside to that is having a pool table that isn't level when you get to the new place. If you call a professional they will typically level it for you.

you need to have a pool table mover do it if you want it levelled and everything. If the table isn't level then you might as well not even have one.

IIRC I paid about $250 10 years ago to have mine moved and levelled.

I merely quoted what I paid the last time I used one. Went from the Uhaul place, to my wife's parent's place, to our new place, back to Uhaul, we didn't pay even close to $1/mile, no insurance or anything else, was like $32CDN or so with taxes.

to have it done right will probably be several hundred dollars.

an older friend of mine bought a used one and was shocked that it cost $650 to have it professionally moved and leveled

You usually just can't pick up a pool table and move it. Also you are normally supposed to have it re-felted if you disassemble it. It can get pretty pricey, your best bet is to look on craigslist for people who specialize in service and or transportation of a pool table and ask them.

Most U-Haul places will charge $0.19-$0.49/mile depending on the truck rented.
The truck itself will be from $20-50 day depending on the size.

The small size should handle a pool table - measure to make sure.

As others stated, once you get the table relocated, it will have to be properly leveled.

We got charged around $300 for the breakdown/assembly of the table and moving it to a new house 20mins away.

You need to make friends with big trucks.

If one of my friends wanted it and was willing to help, I'd do it for a case of beer
