How much to put away?

Okay, I'm planning on performing a CPU, mobo, and RAM upgrade on my computer. I was going to do it very soon, but I decided I'll wait for AMD's Clawhammer processors (or did they change the name). So that means I'll need the processor, a new motherboard, and new RAM (DDR?).

The only thing is I most likely won't have the money when they come out (September - November?), but I do now. I was figuring on putting some money away, probably a savings account (I don't have one now, just checking), so I will be able to upgrade at the end of the year. I was wondering how much people think I should put away? I was guessing somewhere between $500 - $700. I would probably go for at least 512 meg of RAM, and probably the fastest Clawhammer available when I upgrade.

BTW, I am currently running an Athlon T-Bird 1.2 GHZ, w/ 512 meg PC-133, so I would like an upgrade, but I think I can wait to the end of the year. Thanks.

You're thinking a bit too low, I think.

I believe they're estimating $200+ for the motherboard, & even the top of the line XP's have been introduced at well over $400.

I kind of thought that they would be that much, but I was hoping they would be lower. Oh well, I may put away a bit more, and hopefully I'll have extra at the end of the year so I can get what I want. Probably will be a hell of a lot cheaper than whatever Intel is selling.

?? If you mean that I'll spend a fortune for what would be old two weeks later, I guess you're right. I may opt for a lower speed one. Gotta see how the prices are.
