Im getting an estimate done on my chimney to convert it to a wood burning stove insert. Its like a 35-40ft chimney and is free of needed repairs. just a new liner needed

what do you think the budget range is to drop in a liner and install a nice stove insert?

I don't know but are you aware of how this will affect your insurance rates? Wood burners aren't looked at fondly by insurance companies.

As far as I know, my house is listed/insured as if it has an actual fireplace.

This is what I'm looking at. I can't imagine it is insured any more then an open fireplace.

I think I should have clarified what type it was 🙂

Supposedly these things are completely sealed and super-efficient.

If you're handy and can find a chimney sweep to inspect your work, you can buy a stainless liner, with insulation for probably around a grand. Having someone else do it is going to be more expensive but has a better chance of making your insurance company happy.

I like the quadrafires but have a question. How's your wood supply? Have you already got multiple full (not face) cords cut/split/stacked that have been in the wind long enough to have moisture content lower than 25 percent? If not, you're going to be miserable trying to heat your home with an EPA certified stove. Where do you live? I may have another suggestion, if you're open to it...

A few Year back, I bought a 25' ss liner kit for wood stove that would fit inside the 8" clay flu.
I hired a chimney sweep to install it for about $450
i got mine at chimneylinerdepot.com

BTW dont just stuff insulation at the bottom of your flu. If you plan to burn wood make sure you install a metal fireblock
