you can get claw trimmers at most pet stores. just keep them trimmed and teach him what he can scratch and cant. also, get him a scratching post of some sort.

Cats are not like dogs. They wont gorge themselves on whatevers available. Just leave plenty of food in his dish. He'll eat what he needs.
Change the water frequently.

Not exactly true, but for a kitten that is underweight leaving dry out for them all day and feeding something like A/D would be helpful to get them up to a proper weight.

Most cats end up overweight.

I don't like it. Cats are suppose to have claws. Trim them and find him a scratching post he likes.

Declawing, is much worse than it sounds. It's a lot more than just removing the claws; it's removing the last toe joint.

Had one cat where the previous owner had him declawed, and he always walked funny because of that.

It's not the same though and not all declaws involve removing the claw itself.

Bottom line is there are far more cats than homes available, if declawing gets more cats adopted it's a good thing. If the surgery is done properly, the cat has no issues.

Too many vets really don't know / care what they are doing though.

cats are supposed to have their reproductive organs intact as well.

no, hysteria is much worse than it sounds. like anti abortion whiners who claim every woman who has one is mentally and emotionally destroyed, you are buying into the exaggerated nonsense about declawing. the declawed cats are just fine. get a grip.

Hysterical, is having a cats claws permanently removed because it scratched something. The rational thing is just to trim it's claws. It's not that hard.

I'm not buying into any nonsense. Declawing doesn't always turn out well, I've seen the results first hand.

no different from the pro life crowd, i'm sure they've seen many "traumatized" women from abortion as well.

The problem is just removing the hooks doesn't solve them damaging things.

Yeah...people then probably should just let the cat be put to sleep.

I am sure you have seen bad results. This is usually done by the same places offering $20-30 surgeries.

If you go to a competent vet, I have not heard or seen any issues other than post-surgery infections and sutures coming undone.

When I worked for a vet, we got in a lot of hack jobs that we'd try to do our best with.

I have seen things like them cutting through the next 'finger' bone and/or even splintering it due to using something too dull to cut it with.

I'd be all for leaving cats and dogs intact, but it's not the same as a person and especially with spay/neuters makes for a happier pet that's not fighting it's purely instinctive nature to reproduce. Dogs and esp cats aren't into sex for fun....it's pure reproduction.
