I was thinking $200, midwest money that is.

What do you guys think is a good amount to donate to a church/pastor for the performing of a wedding?

Experience, thoughts?

If you just ask they would be able to tell you what they or their church charges for such things.

Is he your pastor, or just one who is agreeing to perform the ceremony? If the former, whatever amount you feel appropriate although they might not accept it or ask you put it into the offering plate instead. If the later, call the church secretary and see if there is a recommended honorarium amount; if not use your best judgement but $200 sounds reasonable. Be sure to inquire about charges for using the church building as well if you're doing the ceremony in the church, they need to pay to have someone clean it before/after the ceremony and such.

One of our local JPs was asking $250. So we just spent an extra $50 and hired a retired pastor for $300.

$200-300 is the norm for a pastor.

IIRC, we did $200 to the priest (though he was my great uncle, and he'd also taken a vow of poverty, so the money was for his mission in the South Pacific) and then it was $100 for the marimba player, $100 for the pianist, $100 for the singer, $100 for the church's coordinator (which the church then ended up charging us $50 for anyway,) and $300 to use the facility. The last two items would have been less if we'd have been married at our church, but this place was much nicer.

We dropped a shit ton of cash that day.

I would have thought it would be more. Not saying that it should be, just thought it would be.

LOL I can think of nothing worse than being married by some religious fanatic in his gay little outfit.

We gave our pastor $100.00 but in a card from them they gave us $50.00 so I guess we only paid $50.00

Personally, I think it's worse to go through life going out of your way to insult other people who's opinions don't affect your life. That may just be me though.

You want to ask the church secretary what a typical donation is. Some pastors get $50, others pretty much expect $1000 or more.
