my friend knows a very small company that is willing to contract us to build 4 pcs, share a printer (laser), share dsl using router, set up a peer to peer network using xp pro, etc..

my friend has real world experience with networking, while i have mostly book knowledge. building a pc though, we both know at heart. they will front the costs for the parts, but how much should we charge them for labor??

and be the one on the phone with their ISP provider if anything goes wrong. Make sure you are going to charge them for house calls etc.

exactly. Have some sort of agreement beforehand about limited involvement, warranty, etc...
even if warranty is by the manufacturer, who is going to call it in?...u or them??...stuff like that
needs to be worked out.

hmm, didn't think much about who will handle warranty. depends whether they themselves will buy it, or give ur the money to buy it.
