I've been requested to be put on a retainer to maintain the network at a college campus dorm and they've asked me to put together a quote.

It entails...2 office computers - just need to make sure they stay running.

Approximately 100 rooms. All but about 5 or 6 are already wired so I'll need to do those. I won't need to maintain the computers in each of the rooms...just make sure that they are 'wired and working'.

I have no idea what to charge for something like this...anybody have any similar experiences?

Depends how fast they want you there when something breaks and how much you are billing per hour for service.

Do you have any idea how often they will need your services?

"wired and working"

is that talking about the the rooms or computers hooked into the rooms? Knowing how campuses work they'll probably get you working on ocmputers that can't get on the network. If that's the case a time card would work well.

That hundred rooms means at least a few switches and a router out there. When any of that hardware takes a crap, you will be scrambling to get the net up again.
If one of the students plugs in router incorrectly or brings in a computer that was set up for ICS, and you have the dreaded "rogue DHCP server" on your net, you will be scrambling and scratching your head <more like removing your hair:p>.
The definition of "wired and working" needs to be hammered out.
Your expected response time needs to be defined, as well as a backup for vacations, etc.

Good points...it's a safe bet that I will be working on the computers to the extent of them being connected to the internet (anything more than that would be billed separately anyway)

1 day expected response time excluding Sundays.

They know I'm a one man show and their emergency backup option is the Geek Squad.
