How much to charge for a 5 computer network??

I don't do computer tech stuff for a living just a little on the side...

Well I did a 3 computer peer to peer network for this company last year...worked great..but now they are moving to the office next door. Now they want to remove one of the computers on the network and add 2 more making it 5. I have to run 1 50 foot cat5 cable to one office through the wall..and 3 20 footers through 2 more walls.

I have no clue what to charge for this...how much would you charge without including the nic cards and cables??

Thanks!

Jaime

For stuff like that, with small businesses, I charge $40 an hour, minimum of an hour. Assuming you don't have many problems dropping cable, you should be out of there in 2 hours tops.

Probably an $80 job, but then again, I'm very reasonable with my rates and get more clients because of it.

Also, have you considered wireless?

Thanks for the input guys...

Not considering wireless since the 5 port switch is already there....

150 bucks sounds cheap 🙂

Thanks!

You wanna get rich from a small company? lol.

Anyways, I'd charge them $25 / hour, plus costs of wires, etc. Either that, or I'd do a flat charge of $60/hour. That way you can take your time, get the job done, format all their computers, etc. Have fun!

Never, EVER charge a flat rate that includes materials. Quick road to misunderstandings with the client. Always specify labor and components seperately.

I guess I have an inflated sense of self worth but I charge $80/hr for small jobs. In a large office environment it's not uncommon to see quotes for $200/drop for CAT5 installs themselves, not counting the fact that you actually install the workstations on the network. However, in your situation I'd consider the first job. What did you charge for the original 3 computer peer-to-peer?

Think about it for a minute, if you were calling the phone company to have 5 new jacks installed what would you expect to pay?

The company that we use at my work charges $100 per drop, materials separate.

Also, are you doing the software config as well? If so, don't forget to add that on.

Do charge more than you think is a good price, people take advantage of our computer skills too much:disgust:
