well i'm not expecting 45 an hour, that is how much a guy here in town that owns his own business charges, but he has overhead, I know this cert doesn't mean a lot for a career, but I am 17 years old and looking for a summer job, this is better than flipping burgers and data entry (don't ask) I figure since it is a form of skilled labor, shouldn't I get at least a lil more than min wage?

I don't think you're going to get as much as you possibly should; the A+ cert. is ridiculously easy to get.

yeah, I've been looking through all the guides, and a book that I purchased, and most of the stuff is stuff that I have been doing for a year or more so I'm not really worried about passing or being good at the job, more interested in the bottom line ;)

You'll make more money if you work for yourself but there is some overheard to that even if you work from home. That said a lot of places require A+ before they'll even talk to you, even places like HP and Compaq that'll put you thru their own training program.

I got my A+ cert in December of 2000, with an intention of getting a job paying more than $6/hour. I am currently unemployed(and have been so since I quit my job last may) and looking for a tech job. I have been looking for a position since I got the cert. The job market here SUCKS.

Unfortunately no certs will compete with what most employers are looking for, which is a 4 year degree in CIS or CS. Having said that, if you are going to get certified, get as many certs as you can. In addition to the A+ get an MCP+I (or whatever the current equiv is for NT 5) as well as a CCNA.

With those three certs you will be more likely to get ahead in the job market.

Hey, a question ponders me how much does an A+, NET+, MCP(pro 2k and server 2k) make? What about that with Network Infrastructure and MCSA?

Its more than minimum wage, but not quite what it used to be.

Be happy if you can find a job right now that will pay you $10/hr, its a job, which puts you ahead of many others. Depending on how bad you don't want to work in other fields, you can slide that mark down a bit.

As for repair costs if you want to branch out on your own, at a small local store where I used to work, we were charging $45/hr for work... of that I was making $15/hr. At $45/hr we were one of the cheapest in the area, so if you can get exposure or can get some word-of-mouth recomendations you could easily be charging $20-$25/hr.

I don't know, I signed up for the program at school and I'm kinda stuck there. I don't wanna quit, seems bad if I quit, I don't like to quit even if it sucks. When I signed up(end of middle school), they made it seem so good and all, $60 bucks an hour(those lairs, be lucky if I even get $6 probably). Yes my grammar in this reply is terrible, but it's 1:20 AM, should go to sleep now....
