How much tip for a $20 pizza delivery order?

I used to tip $3-$4. For the past year or so, all the pizza places have added a "delivery charge". I think pizza hut is $1, papa john's is $1.75, the others are somewhere in that range. I don't know if this delivery charge goes to the driver or the pizza place, but it knocks my tip down to about $2. Although, you guys are talking about $20+ pizza orders, mine are usually around $15.

It does not. The delivery charges are usually used to suppliment the higher cost of employment for all employees - which is why my franchise had to impliment the charge. Recently, since FL had a minimum wage hike, we had to bring it from $1 to $1.50.

Actually I'm so cheap that I always go pick it up myself. If I was going to tip $3 and gas is $2/gallon... I'd have to drive almost 40 miles to use up $3 in gas... So I just go pick it up.

Also because I'm impatient and don't want to wait 45 minutes for a pizza they can have ready in 15.

When pizza or chinese food take out menus state, "free delivery on orders over xxx," that still means you have to tip on delivery right? 😕

My tip would vary depending on the service. Too many factors - #1 being the attitude of delivery driver. If they walk up to my door, just say the price of the pizza and expect me to give them a tip for that service, I'd give a buck, maybe two in some cases.

But, if the person is generally friendly, says the typical "How are you doing?", and other chit chat, tip would get bumped to at least 4-5 bucks. Friendly customer service is good. I know when I deliver, I try to be as friendly as possible. I repeat the order at the door just in case there's any kind of mistake, I'll be able to catch it early.

Now, if the driver is cute...and friendly - 6 bucks 🙂
