How much TIM to use for heatsink on 4790k?

that's what i did with my 4790k and

coolit eco c240 cooler.

The truth is pretty simple: if the mounting mechanism for a CPU cooler is worth its salt, it will put pressure on the CPU cap or IHS. When it does that, all the excess TIM will ooze out the sides. And this would be equally true for a gritty compound like IC Diamond.

Yes, BD is correct. And we can learn from our esteemed thermal compound expert, IDC. He demonstrated the exact amount (or slightly more) of compound to use here



And that's just for delidding - need much more on the IHS/Cooler interface. If you haven't use the full tube, you haven't performed your consumer duty.

Ironically, you referred to IDontCare as IDC, who apparently wasn't confused at all about ICD.

I still use ICD, and if I run out, I've got approximately $80-worth of micronized diamond dust to mix with something like NT-H1 or AS5, so that most of the resulting thick paste is diamond.

Even when I try to spread it thin, it still oozes out the sides . . .
