No go on the 32GB. If you have any other programs loaded in there it will quickly grow beyond that. I recently replaced my 64GB SSD with a 256GB... but that was because I wanted to load everything on it. As it was, with all my media and games on a separate drive, I was pushing 46GB.

It depends on what all you intend to put on the SSD. With a 64GB SSDs available for $60, I wouldn't even consider a 32GB; better yet, wait for a 128GB to go on sale.

My current Windows 7 installation occupies 15.7GB of disk space. For just the OS, I believe you can get by with a 32GB SSD. To make this happen however you are going to need to move ALL of your support directories (Downloads, My Documents, Program Files, etc.) to another drive which is a pain. Also, just having the OS on a SSD and everything else on a mechanical drive sort of sours the experience. Being able to have your most used programs on the SSD as well will result in a much better experience.

I think the sweet spot for OS + essential programs is 128GB. There are frequently very good deals on 128GB SSDs. I have three 128GB SSDs (Samsung 830 and 840) and paid $79 shipped for each of them.

You can most likely get a Win7 install on a 32G SSD, however it will take constant work to keep it within those constraints and you'll probably run into issues down the road. You should really get a 128G one or larger if possible.

Also, you may want to consider replacing your keyboard as well since a number of the keys, most notably the ? and s, seem to be sticking on you.

I'm on a fresh Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 64-bit install.
After installing various motherboard drivers, 73 important and 30 recommended Windows Updates, including IE 10 - I'm using 28.6 GB on the hard drive.

As an Example.

Win 7 + Office + Nero + Photoshop, and Many Standard OS and Internet utilities.

Page file sys is set to 2GB, No hibernation file, takes about 26GB.

Take into consideration that if you have large RAM and Hibernation is On it might be a different story.

No large games, No large music library, No large videos no ISOs of OSs, etc.

Large file and non active data are kept on a regular 1TB SATA Drive.

In case of a laptop, when needed a small external 500GB 2.5" USB drive in a small enclosure can be useful.

I'm using a 60 GB G.Skill Sniper SSD in the laptop and that's all I need. It has Windows 7 without SP1. I do most of my computing on the desktop with a 120 AData SSD. I moved the downloads folder to the platter. There are many tweaks that you should perform when using a SSD. SSD Tweaker is what you should use. http://www.elpamsoft.com/?p=SSD-Tweaker. Moving the cache from your browser to RAM is a good idea too.

just check newegg for good deals, recently ive seen the Samsung SSD 840Pro series 128gb for about $99. ive got 2 of them in raid 0 and they get the job done, but for you 1 would probaly be enough.
