How much size for Win2K?

I have a 30GB hard drive with Win98SE already installed. I am going to use Partition Magic to create another partition for Win2K. How large should I make the partition for???

Thanks

Well it depends on if you are going to install programs on that partition too? Well for w2k alone personally I would suggest something around 2Gb to ensure sufficient space for future growth.

THanks for the reply. That brings me to another question. When installing software, should I install it on Win2K or 98? My thought was to only use Win98 for games and use Win2K for everything else.

Yer that's the general belief that you should use w98 for games and w2k for everything else. That's what I am doing myself too.

As to software programs. It's up to you. But one thing to keep in mind is that w98 can't access NTFS partitions so make sure softwares are installed on a FAT partition if you want both OSs to access it.

I have always gone with a system where I install software on seperate partitions to the OS partitions. That's just makes it more tidy for me I guess.

Or you can just install win2k on a FAT32 partition instead of NTFS... Also keep in mind not all the programs you run on win98 will work on win2k... so check which one does and which doesn't before you do the install...

I'd give yourself 5GB or so to install programs in Win2k partition that you may not want to install on top of your Win98 program files. Programs that do work in Win98 or Win2k you may be able to have then installed in the same partition and directory, however it may be less buggy to have them installed in their own partitions.

So in other words, if I want to use Microsoft Office on both systems, install it on both partitions?

i'd assume that if you installed win2k on a FAT32 partition then you will only need to install MS Office on one partition, and both win2k and win98 will be able to access it fine.

someone correct me if im wrong.

I would throw in a couple gig for the OS, you can always use the Win98 partition to install programs on.

When installing programs it is best to keep them separated. If one OS corrupts a program, it will also corrupt the other OS.

Why not just split the hard drive in half. Eventually you will probably need the room. My Win2K install is up to 1.6gb and the programs are installed on another hard drive. The "Pagefile" is also on another hard drive.

Bozo 😀
