Hello peeps,
Alright I will try to explain my situation as simplified as I can :

-I use to get around $60 - 150 per week in my past duties, which were the following: Fixing common pc problems around my neighborhood, buying hardware for people and making a small profit, reinstalling Xp and making peoples pc feel like a new one,etc etc. (however that was not a stable income)

-I was slowly increasing in my Income, after about a year I had around $3,000.
(i was nearly 18 and ended days before turning 19)

-basicly after slow upgrades this more or less shows my Pc improvement in the near one year period ,thanks to my hustle.
Some examples are:
15" Crt TO A 20.1" Dell 2005fpw
Broken wood desk TO A Decent glass desk

Now keep in mind i didnt have a official job, and my parents dont give me $.

-Anyways I did realize eventhoe I felt somewhat satisfied with my improvement I still felt I shouldv had some stable job, besides I hate when my parents reminds me to get a job, and that I got a year just sitting around heh.

-Ok back to the real point of this thread, couple of days before turning to my fresh 19 years I was offered to work for a friend of my father, the guy basicly owns several money exchange companies, mainly in islands.

-After I decided ill give it a shot (and after a short evaluation fixing some of his pc's in a nearby business he has) he was sure I could do the job, and asked me how much would I expect as a weekly salary, I thought it over and told him $300/week and he pays for the food and any expenses (flight, hotels, etc), he thought about it and we came to an agreement.

-Here I am in my first target (Puerto Rico), I almost already have a month here, btw its great being by yourself in a penthouse and not worrying about restaurant prices, anyways I mainly have to replace some old pc's there are with some higher end ones, same goes for a server, i then just talk to the programmer so he can remotely install his software to the new pc.

-So basicly I build some pcs, install xp, and just wait for the programmer to do his thing, btw I act as if im special, i wake up around 9am-11, and just head to work to check whats new, while the workers are there since 7am typing a zillion important documents and taking care of customers. I feel good knowing im getting more than what I usually earn by doing such similar jobs that I did back home.

-Now there are some stressful times, working for long times with computers gets somewhat tiring and very boring, and im dealing with delicate stuff here, if i screw up im in for some big trouble.

-So for what you have read, do you think I should ask for a higher pay? many of my friends tell me I should be getting paid around $500- 600 weekly + expenses&food.
and so have some coworkers here, so im feeling a little off here to me its actually not a difficult job, mainly because im familiar with it etc.

Sorry if I didnt type this thing too understandable but i'm sleepy and dizzy, i expect some replys when i wake up

It sounds like a cool gig to have for a short time, but what would your hourly salary come out to? Assuming you work 30 hrs/week, then you're making $10 hr. and having expenses paid for, which is decent for simple PC repair.

Of course, this isn't something you should do for too long.

My suggestion is stick with the current salary for awhile, since it's only been a month. (This assumes you're having a blast in PR)

what you are doing is not hard, and many people are qualified to do. if you get greedy, you will be replaced.

the real question is why doesn't your boss hire a local to do the job for half what he is paying you now and save the room/board/flight costs.

ok decided to come read some replys, pr is beautiful indeed, well now i see some insults i guess, 10cents... 160$... heh cmon , just because im in a computer knowledgeable website dont think people that can fit the needs be found easy.
-bilingual -trusted (feedback from family or something) -assurance of capacity to do the job....

anyways alot of people tell me jobs like these pay Alot more, if it was 2 or 3 people then ok, but i hear it even from the co-workers.. wtf someone be reasonable.

EDIT : to yamadakun ,its nessecary for someone to get familiar with the program used in the different places, and to be available whenever needed. i guess that answers the local question....

Well 15,600 a year take home if all your expenses are truly paid isn't a bad deal if you like the work and travel to places you enjoy.

Regardless I certainly wouldn't ask for a raise after a month of working somewhere unless you really think you are really that awesome.

Tech jobs tend to be a little bit on the wierd side like that, because you only work when there are problems. I guess its a tradeoff for the occasional 3-4hr day when nothing is broken.

Bottom line is you need to evaluate whether your final take home is worht the effor you put in or not. If you think it is, keep doing it. If not, screw it.

well, whats the average pay in PR? I mean if you're supporting your self okay, not in debt and crap like that, and your life style is okay for what you want, I'd not be complaining. I'm A+, Net+ and Security+ certed and I only make $10 an hour, but the benefits are pretty good (all cert tests paid for, bonuses, all company apparel with logos on it paid for [nice work shirts, $200 jacket, etc])

Wait, so you just asked for this salary a month ago and now you want to renegociate?

Do you have an agent named Drew Rosenhaus by chance?

You're making a few bucks over minimum wage for a job that requires you to be away from home for extended periods of time. Yeah, you get to travel to nice places... but he's spending more on your lodging and travel than you're being paid! And if you're staying in a penthouse, something is up. That just doesn't make sense.

Actually the penthouse is just here in PR, the rest of my locations will be in nearby hotels etc..
I just came from subways now (heh im skinny but i love it) anyways they can eat what they want without paying.. now im thinkin hmmm
(pr minimum wage = $5.15 but putting that aside), these people could eat without worrying and they get paid depending on hours + overtime.

while im doing some "high techie" job putting the company data on a frikin risk, theres a guy working at subways making more or less my income....
