It's amazing how the right wing shows how poorly they understand issues and the liberal views when they try to make fun of them.
It'd be like a liberal making fun of pro-lifers by saying "we have to protect all animal species fetuses and put women in hospital rooms for the whole 9 months!!" as a joke.
Or "Support the troops ya we all have to call them your highness and give them special parking passes and pay them $2 million for serving!" as a joke.
They just don't make sense - they show that the speaker doesn't understand the issues or the views of the republicans.
Health care is a moral issue - our society has a moral debt when it can afford to help - and an economic issue - skyrocketing costs for businesses are harming them.
To try to make a joke that free guitars even make sense as a joke - obviously it wasn't meant seriously - just shows a lack of understanding of the universal health care issue.
It's trying to say that liberals want to make everything free, which is not funny because there's no truth to it; it's only funny to republicans because they hold that wrong view of liberals, as if health care were some absurd frivolous giveaway. So the republicans will cackle 'haha, see the liberals were claimed to want to give everything free.' It's just sad how they are misinformed and poison the discussion of issues, which just have the liberals tell the republicans they got it wrong over and over. And over.
Their heads don't work quite right though; they don't care that Al Gore never said he invented the internet, they form the same view of him anyway. They don't care that John Kerry was lied about regarding his service and that his recent mispoken joke did not say what the republicans claimed, they still acted as though it were the case. They don't care that the 'wipe Israel off the map' quote was misrepresented, they form an opinion of the president of Iran the same as if he said he wanted to nuke Israel.
They're victims of ideology. And so when the free guitar 'joke' is made, they laugh because they hate democrats as wanting to give a lot more away for no good reason than democrats do; they just ignore the inconvenient actual policies, or things like Bill Clinton balancing the budget. They will say Bill Clinton was a big spending fiscally irresponsible democrat the same time they acknoweldge the fact that he balanced the budget, while they spin and spin to explain.
