How much should I expect to pay for a laptop like this?

i just need something that will play divx/xvid/wmv3 files without stuttering. for that purpose, duron 600+ or p3/celery 800+ is something i would like to see, plus 128mb+ ram so the OS doesnt choke. dvdrom drive is a must have as most of my video files are on dvdroms. other than that i really could care less as long as the battery isnt dead or anything. i just got a $250 check from my old school, maybe i could find something for around that much... too much wishful thinking?

it would have to be used... although for some older P3 laptops and etc., its hard to find good batteries to power the laptop with...

You would have the best luck trying maybe Microcenter, or any store that sells refurbs.

250 dollars is waaay too little for a system like that. i would suggest going ebay. you can generally get a pIII 600 or 700 mhz system with 128-256mb of ram and a 13.3" screen for between 400-600 dollars. either way ebay is probably the cheapest and expect to spend a minimum of 400.

Also might be able to find a Celeron based notebook (Toshiba probly) for ~$600 after mail-in-rebate at retail stores. 256MB, maybe wireless, 15" (maybe 14"), 30-40GB. Just an FYI
