How much should I charge for HTML maintenance with QuickTime work?

Hello all.

I have a friend who is a composer, and he has samples of his work online in flash format. He came to me to change his website to show the work samples in QuickTime format, citing audio quality concerns.

So, I did some webpage code changes to embed the QuickTime movies, plus the actual QuickTime encoding of the audio/video files to be embedded.

The webpage code changes were purely functional, and didn't take much time, maybe 1-2 hours of work. The QuickTime audio/video encoding took longer, about 12 hours or so.

He is quite happy with the work I've done. I'm glad, because this is actually the first time I've done a gig like this for someone besides myself.

All things considered, how much should I charge for that job?

How much would you guys charge?

Also, what kind of a discount would you guys give your friends and/or family for similar work? (I do intend to give him a friend's discount.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

were the 12 hours of video encoding involved? I mean...did you spend 12 hours doing it, or did your computer crunch away for 12 hours doing it?

I charge 175/hour on average, but for basic html i charge around 100.

For a friend, i'd probably charge 150 bucks.
For a client, probably 350-500 (depending on consulting time and stuff)

The 12 hours were involved. The crunching was only about 2-3 additional hours or so, and I had no intention of charging for that.
