how much should i ask for this table?

im moving and i dont feel like taking this table. i bought it several years ago before we had any furniture or money. i actually like the table and its very well built, but its dated obviously. its solid oak with two 1' extensions and it has 6 chairs. $100? $200? i looked around and i cant find anything on craigslist for a comparison. ive also considered donating it, but i would still need to figure out a valuation for tax purposes.

How much did you buy it for and how much are you willing to not move it? If I donated it, I'd certainly not even bother putting it on my taxes.

I don't know much about furniture, but I've seen people pay upwards of $500 for sets that looked no better than that one. I guess I'd try to get around $200 for it.

i bought it as part of a set and i dont remember what i paid for all of it. maybe 600 for multiple pieces of bedroom furniture, a china hutch, and this table.

i dont understand your tax comment. if you choose not to claim donations, thats one thing, but i definitely take every deduction i can get. i always itemize because im usually 4x over the standard deduction. a valuation of 200 would still be something.

The chairs look like trash. $50 pick up only.

i agree that the chairs look like trash, but they arent. i considered putting new upholstery on them and i still think that would be a good idea, but in their current state you are correct. the quality of the chairs is good, though.

thats what i was thinking as well. like i said in the op, im aware that the table is dated, but its built really well and has a lot of life left in it.

Those chairs are only worth a nominal amount-and that's because you have all six of them.

Unless it's an antique or something very special, my experience is that dining room tables without matching chairs (or in this case, chairs of any value) go for tag sale prices at best. If you get $100 cash out of this consider yourself lucky, $200 tops.

nice table. ask for 300 for the whole set. I would pick it up if I weren't in igloo nation

If the set is in as good of condition as it looks...$300 is a fair price. However...getting that price may take some time...or not. With Craigslist furniture sales, you never know.

shitty glued together mdf furniture goes for more than that.

Is it any particular brand? Generally, sets like that - with all six chairs still in decent shape - sell for a bit more than if it was just a table, or just the chairs (combined). I would bet you could get between $200 and $300 for the set.

Re: "omg, you can't get solid oak for that price" - I'm not sure, but I think there are more oak trees in this area (and certainly, more Amish craftsmen) than pine trees. I've seen solid oak trestle and clawfoot tables sell for just a couple hundred.
