i'm shipping a package, a CD-Writer, from Virginia to Canada. I used rate calculators at USPS, UPS, and FedEx and the cheapest shipping for all 3 is around $17...which seems really expensive...how much does it usually cost you?

I just shipped a package from California to Toronto through USPS airmail. It was a box full of old memory, about the same size as a CD drive or slightly larger, and about as heavy. It cost $6 and change.

When I came in here I was gonig to flame you for not looking it up yourself at the shipper's websites :)

i opened a US postal box to avoid high charges, and just drive across the border myself (I'm in winnipeg), that usually costs less than 4 bucks to ship.

Reminds me of a girl I dated named Virginia. I called her "Virgin" for short....

But not for long.

With USPS (don't use UPS; they lost a package of mine at the CAN border somehow, or somewhere along the way anyway) I sent a CD burner from Alabama to Nova Scotia recently. I used the 4-7 business day option and it cost $11.05

I ship a good amount to Canada, and 2-3 day express shipping was thirty bucks for a 6-pound box to Vancouver. I'd just go with USPS, and make sure you are entering the right amount of weight, as the price can change greatly with little change in weight. With my experience, use USPS. Just my $0.02.

BTW, I am 'up' in Arlington.
