I have 512 right now, and am thinking, will i notice a difference if i upgrade to 768 or say even 1gb???

how much do u guys have? is it noticeably faster?

The most I have on any one machine is 1 GB. And yes, it's noticeably faster, but typically comes into play when I'm doing several things at once.

which computer?

it varies on what it is being used for, but not more than 512MB , RAM is cheap, but i have too many computers to go above 512MB right now

1 GB at home in workstation, 512mb at home in server, 256mb here at work. The gig I picked up when ram prices bottomed about 2 years ago, it's Crucial PC2100 DDR ECC and it was 160 bucks shipped back then. Still not that bad of a deal, considering. 🙂

512MB (2x256) PC2100 DDR cost me a whopping $10 (thanks to a November '02 Hot Deal).

So damn cheap I bought my wife half a gig also 😀

i didn't see much difference between 256 & 512.

It really depends on what OS you are using too. I have seen XP just chug on 256 but smooth as glass on the same PC once you dropped another 256 in. Of course it seems like my 2k box liked 256 better than 512.

I have also found that anything over 256 with 98se seems to confuse it a bunch....Odd....

As said, it really depends on what you are doing with that box.

Video editing needs lots of ram.
Email does not.
CAD/CAM design needs lots of ram.
Word and Excel do not.
Most games get by just fine with 512mb, assuming you don't have 50 apps and IE windows open.

I have 512mb in my main (gaming) rig. When playing UT2K3 or IGI2, ram usage goes up to about 60% and then drops down to about 20% with just a few IE windows/Outlook Express open.

2 gig....on my server at work 🙂

But seriously, 1/2 gig DDR in my home desktop, and 1/2 gig DDR in my laptop.

i got 1gb at work only because my employer paid for it.

micro$oft xp pro turned dual 2.2ghz xeons, 10k scsi disks, & 1gb RDRAM into a dog.

Oh yeah...as for me, I have just put my xp-rig at home back up to 512. My Linux box has 384. My work laptop has 512. And my spare laptop at the house has 320
