Getting back into lifting and I'm wondering how much protein I should consume to further my muscle growth. For the past few days I've had at least 30g, mainly from tuna. Had a big ol' chicken breast last night and a smoothie w/protein in it today. Yum yum!

Just recently read that you should take 1-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight if you're seriously lifting. I'm sure half of that would be good enough for an average lifter. If you think about it though, 180 or whatever grams of protein over the entire day isn't really that much if you make the right meal plan.

1gm per lb of body weight is the general saying, but even that is a bit on the high side unless you are seriously competitive. Your diet and routine are the most important.

Actually I found a guide online somewhere and calculated based on my daily activity and body weight; I weight 250-260 and the guide recommended in the mid-200's. :Q That's a lot! I know I don't have that everyday in my diet, LOL

Shoot for 200g a day. Even if that is above what you "need", protein is harder to digest and actually nets less calories than carbs and fat. The real hardcore guys will say 2g per pound of bodyweight.

Whey Protein.

5 pounds last about 1-2 weeks.
Get ones that have 24+grams per scoop.

Also look into creatine and take your vitamins.

There are so many things I could say in poor taste regarding a man and his "protein"

Instead, thumbs up on staying in shape!
