Nah, not nearly that many. The popular vote tally for Trump was ~62M out of a population of 323M. That's only ~19%. That's right, 19% is all it takes to get elected.

To be fair, that was really not the point I was making. I hope *everyone* votes in the US that is legal to do so. Once. I really don't want to spend time putting a disclaimer on that statement

Yah, it's really more the US political system that is archaic and corrupt (i.e. Citizen's United, 2010).

In any event, if the miners inflate the prices for the AMD cards, it will just be another reason to stick with Nvidia and not make the switch, which is really unfortunate.

Well, what, 39% of the US population will still vote for that infantile lunatic Trump? I guess that kind of explains it.

guys , what does this have to do with video card?

also, for those who missed civics in high school, the system is set up for majority of the states (electoral votes) to avoid abuse by very few population centers over the rest of the country. I think number were like 30/20 for Trump on per state level so 60%.

it gets worse if you look at it on per county level - there is 3141 counties in US (our local unit of government), of which even the most left leaning sources admit Trump won at least 2,649 of. 2,649 /3,141 is ~84% of the USA counties, absolute majority of the local units and local population in each unit, if you want to look at it that way, chosen their president..

now back to video cards.. I wonder how other people are weighting the $700+ for single component for <500 for the full console system. I.e. I want to play Cyberpunk and I have those choices, why would I be buying new GPU now??

a lot of people I feel are stuck with 1060s and lower,
and the new cards are still very expensive, I think demand on the used market is going to be pretty high for things like 2070!?

I guess it depends on the availability of RTX3080/70.
They are pretty affordable for most gamers. IF 3070 sells for around $500, I would think 2080ti would devalue to around $400-450.

Last month, people were buying the 2080ti for around $1000.. big difference.

A perfect example of the continued utter stupidity going on. There are still plenty of BRAND NEW 2070 super cards available for $629 CDN or less (WAY too much to begin with for that card right now). I had posted a local add thinking I might snag a 2070 super or better for $300...but I live in the land of reality. These ridiculous ebay prices make it impossible to negotiate with anyone, so I took it down. Maybe by November the world will make sense??

I saw this add in my local buy and sell (Kijiji - prices are CAD):

CAUTION if you are upgrading your graphics card right now. Please read. Many people paid a fair sum for their cards and want to offload them before the new 3000 series launch in the next few weeks. A 3070 will offer similar or better performance than a 2080 Ti, top end card, for around $650 CAD. Understandable that people want more for something they just purchased recently. However, pricing is not in a bubble, it is relative to performance. So if a 3070, new with warranty, will outperform a 2080Ti at around $650 then used ones should be valued closer to $500 due to depreciation, use, relative price vs. Performance and no transferable manufacturers warranty. 2070's were about half the price of a 2080Ti new so used should be about half the price of a used 2080Ti so around $250. If people want to charge more then wait a few weeks and get a new one for cheaper and with warranty. Not sayin, just sayin...

I bet this guy has received several less than flattering messages from those selling their cards :D. It does have well over 1000 views already. Hopefully people read it and clue in before they buy.

I'm confused about warranty on a used card as I've never bought one. I *think* my EVGA 1070 that I sold a month ago had transferable warranty based on what I read on their site. Haven't all other brands followed suit?

LOL! Yeah, please sell me a 2070 for $250 CAD.

I would take NVidia marketing on a 3070 beating 2080Ti with a huge grain of salt.

Even if it just matches the 2080ti, which it likely will, you're nuts paying more than say $325 CDN for a USED 2070. The 2080ti is on average (according to the latest 3080 benchmark from Techspot) 58% faster than a 2070 at 1440p. I'm not saying you'll actually get one for that price as people paid too much for them and want more than they're worth, but that's what they're now worth.

People just need to be patient (and a lot smarter). By the end of November, everything should be settled down (Black Friday...they're going to want to have stock of everything). If the used market is still stupid, so what? Buy new and those people can sit on those overpriced cards.

Saying the 2070 should be worth half what a 2080Ti is now because that's what the ratio was at launch is poor reasoning though. The halo always suffers the most when a new generation hits, because the whole reason it has such ridiculous margins is that it's simply the fastest thing out there. I would literally eat my hat if Nvidia released a card this year at CAD$250 (US$190) that matched a 2070, and would actually be surprised if we saw anything at CAD$330 (US$250) that beats a 2070 this year. If you want a card now and your budget is $300, if you can find a 2070 or 2070S for that price it's a pretty good purchase.

Yes, the older used hardware should be less than the new faster hardware with warranty.
He is right about that one. A new RTX 2080 ti should be, at most, $500 USD

However, he is WRONG about the thought that if a RXT 2070 was half of a RTX 2080 ti, it should still be half of it.
The biggest prices gaps are at the top of the ladder, so that is where the big discounts have to happen. The gaps as we go down the ladder will not be in the same proportion.

I wrote before that I expected a RTX 2070 Super to be around $350 new, if still available, and after all discounts.
After seeing that a RTX 3060 is expected to be $400, at around the same performance, I take that initial assessment back. I am now expecting the RTX 2070 super to hover around $380 until gone.

People need to understand that the realistic floor for true gaming GPUs is around $100, the market dictates it.
You cannot push a RX 5700 down to $150 if the RX 5500 XT is still hovering there.
The gaps between tiers will be smaller, maybe $20-$30 instead of $50-$70, but expecting $250 CAD for a RTX 2070 performance tier is wishful thinking.
Did the GTX 1080s ever go that low? So don't expect a one generation newer hardware to make it there

I saw a couple Ti listings around $700-800 or almost that. Still seeing listings for them at or around $1,200 which is ridiculous.

I base my estimates (what I'm willing to pay for a used card) on performance. I sold my 1070 a month ago for $280 CDN. The 2070 is about 20% faster on average than a 1070. Therefore the MAX I'd spend on a 2070 is $330 CDN. Actually I think I got too much for the 1070, so $325 CDN or less is more realistic. The 2070 Super is about 50% faster than the 1070, therefore I'd pay up to $425 CDN for that card, if I were buying used.

Now, those have to come down when the 3070/3060 release as I'd much rather put that $425 towards a new 3070/60 than an old tech, used card with no warranty. If the 3060 ti matches or beats the 2080 Super as rumoured, and releases at say $399 USD ($525 CDN), I would be very dumb to spend $425 on a USED 2070 Super now wouldn't I? The 2080 Super at 80% faster than a 1070 (1440p, 14 game avg), $500 CDN USED, or just pay $525 and get a NEW 3060ti...no brainer.

That's my reasoning. The guy that posted that ad has his numbers off a bit, but the point is to stop people that may not know any better from buying and getting ripped off. I have since posted a similar ad in my local area (with my numbers and the Techspot 3080 benchmark) and have already received a couple messages thanking me for the information, which was a bit surprising.

I've actually seen some of the more ridiculous ads disappear in the last few days ($650 - $700 for a USED 2070 Super), so I'm assuming some people are just going to keep their 20 series cards, or maybe they put them on EBay where people continue to defy logic with what they're spending.

My local CL has a WTB 2080 ti for $500 ad, and another ad about the 3080 and upcoming 3xxx other cards trashing the value of currrent cards. I am sure it keeps getting reported and removed, but as others have said bots are too easy these days.

I feel like the "value" might be in the 2080S/2080 because of the way demand works. If 2070s get cheap enough, there are tons of buyers at say that $200-$250 level. Start getting closer to $300 and maybe it clears out folks looking for used cards and so the 2080's might be only small premiums over the 2070. I only say that as the 2080ti still exists and despite whatever they cost new, the halo cards always seem to retain a lot of value. And now, when they have more ram than a 3080 some folks will use that to judge its place in the card hierarchy alone. I am not saying their right, just saying people see more as being better.

I wanted to find my cousin a 2080s for $400 or less shipped to him but haven't had much luck so far.

Yeah, CDN$425 for a used 2070S is a bad deal, but you said you'd be nuts to pay more than CDN$325 for a used 2070. At the CDN$325 mark you're almost certain to not be able to buy anything new that performs as well any time soon, so if the $300ish mark is your budget a used 2070 (or S) is going to be a decent purchase.

You may argue for what you think the rational price for a use product might be, but that doesn't create any incentive for someone to sell you it for that.

I laughed at the earlier post when the guy was proclaiming 2070 for $250. Good luck finding anyone that would be dumb enough to sell that low, when they typically selling for double that used.

I just checked the sold 2070 models on Ebay.ca. Not one 2070 sold less than $420, and on average they are going for $500+.

If I was selling a 2070, there is no way I would let it go for less than $400. Why would I?

The best you can do in the new market is an AMD RX 5600 XT, so people will keep paying $400 for used 2070 cards.

If you read my post I think the guy's numbers are a bit off, but that's not the point. You're right, good luck finding it for those prices because buyers are really, really dumb. In a sane market, you'd have no choice but to sell your 2070 for less than $400, or you'd be keeping it.

Do you have some issue with my estimates? Would you actually buy a slower, used card for the same price as a new one, because it seems like that's what you're implying? I hope with my ad and his a few people have come to their senses and will wait.

What do you mean the best you can do in the new market is a 5600XT? I can buy any card I want right now other than the 3000 series, supply is not the issue. Actually the Sapphire 5700XT just received the first price drop I've seen in a long time to $509 CDN (from $549).

Again, I'm waiting and won't buy a USED card for stupid prices, period. It's just entertaining and baffling seeing what's going on.
