how much power (in watts) does laptop use in general, when plugged into the electrical outlet?

not some special lightweight centrino or your diesel desktop replacements.
a laptop somewhere in between the two.
 
1.3GHz Centrino by Acer uses 65W, it wasn't too light either.
2200+ AthlonXP-M uses about 90W
3.06GHz P4-M uses 120W, inc DVD-R, decent GPU etc.

In general expect 65W min. to 120W max. with most models using about 85W.
