How much power does the internal nic on my laptop use?

I have a Dell Latitude D510 and there was a setting that was on by default. My laptop would disable the wired NIC while it was running on batteries. I do occasionally plug into a wired connection even when the laptop is running on batteries, but when the laptop 'tries' to enable the wired NIC when i plug a network cable in, it doesnt always work.

I disabled this feature so that the NIC is always on, but I'm just curious how it will effect my battery life. Is a simple NIC a significant power drain on a laptop?

Negligible. NIC hardly eats any juice compared to anything in your laptop.
