I'm making a new rig soon i know everyting i wanna get cept a PSU

Brand name PSU's are always better so i'm going with Antec but i'm not sure if i should get a 430w,480w, or 550w truepower. Here's some basic specs of what i'm getting lemee know what you think about the PSU
-----------------------------------
Athlon XP2800+
Asus A7N8X
radeon 9700pro
corsair ddr400 xms
2x 120gb WD SE RAID0 w/ raid controller
cd-rom/dvd + CD-RW

I know the XP2800+ and radeon will suck down some major power along with the hard dries in RAID will use 50w by themselves i'm guessing. 550w is VERY expensive though but i don't wanna under buy cause a weak PSU is nothing but a headache

I have an Antec 330 watt on my:
1.2 Tbird
GF4 Ti200 128MB
512 MB DDR Crucial
16x Liteon DVD
48x12x48 Liteon CDRW
20GB IBM 60GXP
120 GB WD 1200JB SE
60GB Maxtor 5400rpm
6 x 80mm case fans

and it runs just fine. :) You only really NEED a 330 watt, but if you want to splurge, more power couldn't hurt. :D

I'm running a 300w antec on a diff rig and my dads rig had problems with a no-name PSU 350w, with a simple setup. PRoblem fixed when i poped in a 430w antec. so i goes 480w Antec for a system thats going to be fully loaded?

Well, with your 300W antec that you're running on a diff set up, did you have any problems with that?

And it doesn't surprise me that your dad's system had problems with a noname PS. His problem did not lie within the system components, but just a crappy PS all together.

I would NOT be surprised if your Antec 300W powered your "fully loaded" system just fine. But if you have a bit of money to burn, and want to play it safe, I'd suggest a 380W or a 430W. A 430W should be even MORE than enough.....

Just like everyone says. Stick with sparkle, antec, enermax etc. 300W is all that is really needed but splurge a little and get 350-400.

Power supplies are the biggest waste of money... Just use whatever comes with your case. Assuming it's amd approved, you will be fine.

OMG you are crazy! I think AthlonXP 2700 draws 1.65 volts like every other Tuoroughbred so its not much more of a power drawer than any other Thouroughbred. All those power supplies you mentioned are for Dual processor servers.

300 watts should be more than enough. 350 or 400 if really think you could use it.
