How Much Power do PC's Really Use?

I turn both my systems off at night when i go to bed to save power, plus it takes almost as much time for the monitors to turn on or come out of standby as it takes the computer to boot up. so there is no use for me to keeps them on oall the time. Plus i cant sleep with the light from the fan controlers, i dont mind the noise, i just dont like the light. that is another thing that can really draw power are high speed fans, I have 3 Vantec 80mm tronados in one computer and a 60mm in it, and one 90mm Vantec tornado in the other computer. those draw lots of power when they are on high. If you have hight speed fans and dont have a fan controler think about getting one. They help with the noise and the power consuption.

This is in stark contrast to the PSUs used by my modem, etc. On one 5W supply standby power is about 6W, rising to about 13W at full load!
I've also noticed the power draw of devices that use transformers for their ac adapters. 5W 24/7 for 1 year ~= $3. I try to use universal switching ac adapters for all my devices. They can be bought for cheap on ebay.
