how much overvolt AMD?

What are people's opinions on how much overvolt is acceptable? I know I may reduce the life of my 2400+ (like I'm really going to hold on to it for long when the hammers come out anyway) but I don't want it to burn out in a month either.

Any guidelines out there? What are you using on your setup? I have an asus a7v8x, athlon 2400+, 1.85V core, running @ 2.5 Ghz.

While we're at it, I'm also curious on how much you guys overvolt on memory...
 
I think you are near your limits at 1.85v. I currently run my 2100+ T-Bred @ 1.9v, which many regard as dangerous and too high.

My memory is at 2.8v.
 
id say max for tbreds (in my case) would probably be aroun 1.9v.....or 1.85...
your board does allow you to go higher if you want to try just for kicks i believe

for ram...id say 2.8....perhaps 2.9....
 
I have my XP1700 T-Bred A at 1.6 volts and it's running at 1733. I don't think a huge voltage increase is necessary unless you're lookin for EVERY last bit you can squeeze out of it.

but if in some weird occurrance a vcore of 1.9v gives itlike 200-300 mhz mre....that would probably convince me of raising the vcore to that level

Definitely. Upping the voltage often dramaticly ages the CPU and creates a LOT more heat, I'd take it no higher than 1.70v, even at stock voltage gains should be high. 1.9v def sounds dangerous on a 9 layer TbredB core intended and tested to run at 1.60v!

isnt max for tbreds something along the lines of 2.1v ??
(i think i read that somewher....either that or its a manifestation of my tired brain lol)
 
I believe that was the palominos... .18 micron needed, and could handle more voltage than the .13 micron T-Breds

*EDIT* I guess if you wanted to use something like water cooling, the heat wouldn't be a problem... the high voltage in itself breaks down the CPU... I've seen a few technical explanations of why... but the way I understand it, by increasing electrical pressure (that's what voltage is), you're "pounding" the CPU's internals harder so it breaks down faster... 0's becomes 1's and your CPU is dead.
 
Hmmm... I'm at 1.85V mostly because it was as high as I felt comfortable with at the time. I'm getting great performance, but there's always the thought in the back of my head that I can do better 😉

I should also mention that I'm water-cooling the CPU, and it stays relatively chilly, never much above 40C even under heavy load. Idle about 30C. It's always cooler than the motherboard, which is why I'm tempted to try to push it further...

I guess the real question is, has anyone toasted their Tbred B by running at 1.9v or less, and if not, how long have they been running at that voltage without it dying =)
