How much of your time at work is spent acting busy as opposed to really being busy?

Thankfully my boss doesn't really care what I do as long as I've cleared up the open tickets and am ready to take any calls (I work in a callcenter). We're watching the simpsons at the moment.

It depends. Sometimes I'm swamped with work and sometimes I have pretty much nothing to do. So it varies from 0-8.

If I'm on the front-end (running a register or bagging) and our store manager isn't in...AND Richard isn't the floor clerk, I can get away with doing abso-frickin'-lutely nothing all day long. If either of them are there, have to clean registers/floors/windows, help grocery crew get caught up, etc.

Usually I'm too busy to have to act that way though...

Since I'm in a call center, if there are no calls coming in, I act busy. This amounts to 2-3 hours a day of reading and surfing.

nope before I didn't get my raise I worked pretty hard trying to show that it was worth the money to give me what I diserve. the sad thing is since I know what i'm actually doing in my job in the 2-3 hours of actaul work I do a day I do more than my coworker does in 8. plus my boss doesn't seem to care I'm always bailing him out on projects that he hasn't been able to get done.
