433 a month gas/tolls
100 a month insurance
293 a month 2nd car payment
167 a month gas/tolls
100 a month insurance
______
$1450/.78

Thats $22,307 a year of my salary just for my wife and I transportation

For me alone its about 15k

Gas/tolls

tolls = $4 a day, gas = 170 miles = 6-7 gallons =~ 16$ a day

$20 a day 5 days a week = $100

4.33 weeks a month = $433 a month

85 miles each way, not to canada 🙂

$376.53 monthly car payment
$325 monthly car payment
$0 monthly truck payment
$120 monthly for insurance for all three cars
$400 monthly for gas (one tank per vehicle, per week. $40 truck, $30 each car)
$100 monthly for maintenance
=====
$1321.53 * 12 = $15858.36 per year!
Good thing I work in the auto industry!

$90 for gas
$70 insurance
$50 maintainence fund
_______

$210

Heh, I was like you I used to drive 85 miles one way before I moved closer to work. I bought a civic and when gas was $1.39 I was saving enough money to nearly pay the payments on the civic.

$175 monthly car payment
$75 monthly insurance
$200 monthly gas bill
$200 to get the windshield replaced
The whole driving experience? Nearly priceless.

$0 p.o.s. car is paid off, finally
$75 monthly insurance
$60 monthly gas
$5 - maintenance? i don't really maintain it per se
==========
$140?

never really thought of this before. good thread

$0 montly payment on car
~$30 gas on car
~$100 month insurance on car

$0 monthly payment on bike
~$40 gas on bike
~$50 insurance on bike

total.. eh

roughly 10% once you throw insurance in. That is way too much, but I bought a new car (that I didn't pay off and I'm trying to pay it off quickly). Also, my insurance is a bit expensive given my record. Hopefully I'll be getting some relief as my record gets better/truck gets older.

hmm let me see, monthly transport bills

Car payments $0.00 (I own both of my cars out right)
Fuel $80-100

other bills

Maintaince $depends if something breaks, but generally done every six months about $60-100
Insurance $1200 per year for my '86 Falcon, my '78 Falcon is uninsurable
Rego about $1000 per year

Heh, counting my wife's costs Im floating around 45% of my salary going towards this, and 40% going towards mortgage/tax

Well, if youre paying off two new cars on your own, obviously its going to cost a fortune.

$0 car payments
$100-150 gas
$125/mo insurance

$3000 a year.

$0 car payment
$30/mo gas
$100/mo insurance
--------------
$130/month = $1560/year

if you're driving that much, should have just bought used 2001/2002 civics/corollas/prizms that give 40mpg. also, car note would be lower since you can get them for under $7k.

or 1993 corolla/sentra. can get those for $1k now. my 93 sentra lasted me 225k miles w/no major problems. (ie: no engine/tranny work) my gf's 93 corolla lasted her over 125k till it got stolen.

~90 per month on gas
145 per month insurance (I'm 20 :/)
___
235/month, 2820/year

that's about 4% of my salary. not that bad. 🙂

WTF don't you move? Honestly who drives 85 miles EACH way esp on a car that gets 24-28 mpg. Either buy a hybrid or move, it'll save you so much in the longrun. For me my monthly expenses are 30 dollars a month for a bus pass.

did you figure into that , that is after tax money?

if you are taxed 20%, divide 2820 by .80 and thats how much of your salary goes into it
