How much of the thermal material needs to be removed?

After removing the crappy thermal material from the bottom of my Volcano 5, how much needs to be scraped off? I've got most of it off, but there is still some discoloration where the black stuff used to be...

Get off as much as you can.

Use some goof off to remove ALL of it.

ALL of it. It will interfere with the heat transfer ability of the thermal compound you apply.
