How much of the stuff you have did you work for?

Everything I've ever had, it was from my own earnings. I haven't even received anything really for Christmas in something like 9 or 10 years. It wasn't up until my wedding that I have had stuff in my house that I didn't buy, so that was an interesting experience.

I've been reading the stuff about the kid who is annoyed by older people in college who ask questions, and then the other guy that is happy to set his parents back $22000 or so (definitely come from a better off family than mine). And I'm mean that's great and everything, just not how I was raised and all.

And I don't really feel like doing a poll with all kinds of answers, so just fvcking post it...
Tas.

I've paid for everything. Except for my mobo/cpu and video camera. One was a birthday present, the other was a Christmas present. But typically I don't get birthday presents (okay, I've got them on my 16th bday, my 10th bday, and maybe my 7th or 8th bday, whichever year it was I had the only party I've had).

I don't like being dependent on other people so it's nice to be able to buy my own stuff.

Hmm, let's see:

Stuff I buy with my own money:
Clothes
Makeup
CDs

Stuff my dad pays for me:
Car (I paid 25%, he paid the remainder)
Insurance
Books
Computer
School stuff

all of the stuff i have i paid for....execpt the new Taylor Made driver my wife got me for my birthday, she used her money for it, not mine. so i cant take credit for that.

I've had a lot given to me.

I always got cool presents at christmas/birthdays, but I never really got anything any other times - no clothes, shoes, money to go out, etc.

My grandmother has helped me out more than anything though. I racked up a big $3000 CC debt in a short period of time and she gave me the money to pay it back. I was totally shocked when she offered.

THEN

The same grandmother gave me (and all her other grandkids) $10,000 to put towards university (it was an early inheritance) The money is actually controlled by my father and is now all used up. I'm in my final year of school and having my tuition paid by the university because I work for them

well...since I live alone...no one pays for anything but me...damn bills...school was expensive...and that big bill becomes active in October. Thank God I went though...making good money 🙂

Except for a few small gifts, everything. Bought my first car, too. To me, it just seems better when I work for my money and the things I want.

97% of the stuff i own is off my own earnings. then there are a few things that were paid for by wedding gifts, and a few things i got from my parents (a desk and tv). my dad sends me stuff occasionally, like lenses for my camera (i got a nice 80-200mm f/2.8 yesterday :Q) but if i want it very badly, i have to work for it.

now that i'm also planning on saving for the future, i need to budget better. 😱

Probably 98%. The other 2% are Christmas gifts.

Paid my own way through school, never had a car bought or given to me, never had help with rent. My parents didn't have it to give to me and I never expected anything. And that's fine with me, I've done OK.

well, 90% of the furniture in my house was given to me, but i was doing my step brother a favor by taking it, so i don't know if that counts.

Everything since I moved out at 17 years old.

My first car was $1800 and I worked for every last penny, took forever!

I pay for my schooling, my car, my computer (and some components for my dad & brothers), my electronics (game systems, phone, etc), my clothes and most of my food. And my health, eye, dental and life insurance.

However, my dad pays my car insurance (not because I can't, but because he wants to) and he puts a roof over my head (well, for another year or so, then I'm on my own).

I had a very modest car given to me as an gift from a deceased grandparent when I was a senior in high school, and my parents and I went 50/50 on college costs.

Other than that, everything I have, I worked for.

My parents paid for my college education and are going to buy me a car once I get a job to pay for insurance, gas, etc. My electronics/computer stuff is 99% paid for by me.
