How much of an overclock is needed to match an X1900XTX with a 7900GT?

Is it possible to overclock a 7900GT to the level of an X1900XT, or is the X1900XT clearly a better card? Thanks.

In Oblivion... Not even close. Go with the X1900XT.

well, for most games, but you'll have to overclock far above GTX levels in oblivion as the XTX is considerably faster in that game (30%+ in foilage w/ HDR @1280 - even the x1800xt beats the GTX).

and of course the x1k cards will run AA concurrently with HDR in oblivion, which current generation of nv cards cannot.
 
XTX beats 7800GTX 512mb SLI so forget ocing a 7900gt. Go with the XT for Oblivion, I came from a 7800GTX and the XTX/XT is the card to have ATM for Oblivion. Unless you want to wait a couple months for G80, which may be better, but it could be several months

Man I really wish we had some good info on the G80 and when it will come out. At least when rollo was here we got inside information, now all we get are opinions. And I'm not talking about that INQ website crap either. I want hard facts. Given that it is only a couple months away shouldn't we have more information from better sites?

I just really don't want to drop $300+ on a video card only to have the G80 kill it in a couple months.

And please don't come in saying 'the 7950GX2 already kills it' I don't like spending more on a video card then I do on rent.

The Nvidia and AMD centric world of Anandtech has been turned upside down in the last few whiles by ATI and Intel.

Has made for some interesting reading.

Yeah, I got back into the enthusiast game around the time the 7800GTX came out. I'm extremely curious about both G80 and R600, although I think we may see some of r600 in r580

It definately is. The 7900GT is about equal to an X1800XT - but especially in Oblivion ATI's cards have a significant performance advantage.

g80 will probably cost around 500+.
besides at 300 buck the x1900xt basically stomps on everythings else.
